Before downloading, please check the system requirements for your computer. You might also like to look at the release notes and read about the new features in this version.

Detailed instructions about how to download LibreOffice

The way to use the Download page may not be clear to less-experienced computer users, so below you will find detailed instructions.

Most people will have JavaScript enabled in their browser. In this case, to download the right package for your particular needs, you need to make selections from the two dropdown lists of the download widget.

  • In the dropdown list on the left, choose your computer's operating system:
    • Microsoft Windows: you will be offered the "install_multi" installer (which includes a selection of commonly-chosen languages). You will also be offered the Help pack, which contains the LibreOffice built-in help, and which is an optional extra. If you want the "all_lang" installer (which gives you the full range of currently-available languages), follow the instructions below, entitled "Other way to download LibreOffice, the productivity suite";
    • Mac OS X: choose between the PowerPC [PPC] and Intel editions;
    • Linux: choose between deb-based installers for 32-bit or 64-bit PCs (Debian, Ubuntu, ...), and rpm-based installers for 32-bit or 64-bit PCs (Fedora, Suse, Mandriva, ...).
  • In the dropdown list on the right, choose the language you want. If you just want US English, you don't need any language pack.
  • Click on the displayed download link(s) - if you select a language pack, too, to use LibreOffice in another language than English, you need to download both the installer and the language pack. If you're a Windows user and you want to install the built-in help, you also need to download the Help pack installer. If you're a Mac or Linux user, and you just want to install LibreOffice in English, you don't need to either download or install the proffered English language packs. When finished downloading, please read the installation instructions.

Other way to download LibreOffice, the productivity suite

Via the JavaScript-driven download widget

Below the JavaScript-driven dropdown lists of the download widget, and the proffered download links, you will see three links - one to get the source code, one to get the SDK, and one for alternative downloads for the LibreOffice distribution.

Click on this third link - "Other way to download LibreOffice, the productivity suite". A further set of links will display. Click on the links of relevance to you, and you will see further links offered. Keep making choices until you get to the downloads you need.

For Windows users: you will have an opportunity to download the "all_lang" installer, which provides every single language in which LibreOffice can be installed, but is a somewhat larger file to download. If you just want to install LibreOffice in English, or in one of the more-commonly spoken native languages, you can opt for the smaller "install_multi" installer. You can also download the Help pack installer, which contains the LibreOffice built-in help, and which is an optional extra.

If you are a Mac or Linux user, you should select the installer that is right for your system. If you want LibreOffice in another language than English, you should also choose the appropriate language pack.

If you have JavaScript disabled in your Web browser

If you have JavaScript disabled in your browser, the two dropdown lists of the download widget will be inactive, no suggested downloads will be proffered, and the three links below the download widget will be expanded into a long list of possible downloads.

In the first two sections, there are links for downloading the LibreOffice source code and SDK (Software Development Kit).

In the third section, entitled "Other way to download LibreOffice, the productivity suite", you will have a long list of downloads for Windows, Mac and Linux. In this section, choose one or more downloads for your computer's operating system.

For Windows users: you will see a link to download the "all_lang" installer, which provides every single language in which LibreOffice can be installed but is a somewhat larger file to download. If you just want to install LibreOffice in English, or in one of the more-commonly spoken native languages, you can opt for the smaller "install_multi" installer. You can also download the Help pack installer, which contains the LibreOffice built-in help, and which is an optional extra.

If you are a Mac or Linux user, you should select the installer that is right for your system. If you want LibreOffice in another language than English, you should also choose the appropriate language pack.

Notes

  • A link is also provided below to download the source code, so that you can compile your own installer for special purposes. 
  • Additionally, a link is provided to download the software development kit [SDK] so that you can develop your own extensions and special tools (if you're a developer, we invite you to get involved in development of the LibreOffice core code).
  • If you tick the "Download using BitTorrent" checkbox, the links displayed will be torrents that you then need to download using a BitTorrent client.
