Description MarjaE 2015-07-07 16:51:25 UTC
This isn't consistent behavior.

However, sometimes, if I've finished editing one group and try to enter and start editing the next group, when I click on the next group LibreOffice selects *both* groups, and I can't enter the next group. If I keep clicking on the next group, nothing happens. Until I click somewhere else and return to the next group, I can't enter and start editing the next group.

Yes, I use a lot of groups. I have to.

Hi MarjaE

I tested this out by making a few shapes and two groups. When I edit one group I have to double click outside the group to "exit the group" and edit other objects. If I double click on another group then both groups are selected and I can edit either of the groups. This sounds a bit different to your experience as I can edit the other group by double clicking on it.

I'm not sure if this behaviour is intentional or not so this may require a few more people to test. Could you please provide the LibreOffice version you are using and operating system? This may be specific to a particular operating system or version of LibreOffice. I'll set the bug report to NEEDINFO for now and will change it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided that info.

Tested on LibreOffice Version: 5.1.0.0.alpha1+

LibreOffice 5.1.2.2 on OS X. I don't remember when this began or which version I was using.
Comment 4 Alex Thurgood 2016-09-15 14:05:11 UTC
@MarjaE : If it isn't consistent, then it is going to be difficult to confirm.

Please provide a test document that highlights the problem reproducibly and provide detailed steps so that we can attempt to reproduce it.

Setting back to NEEDINFO, please set to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided the requested information.

I can't find the instructions for example files, and I've been burned by sending them before. I know I've been burned by this before. I haven't been able to find them by searching, and I get a 404 from help...
Comment 6 MarjaE 2016-09-15 15:16:15 UTC
I just had the problem recur though. After entering one group, I tried leaving for another group by selecting the second group; this selected both groups.

I haven't encountered the bug in 5.4.0 or 5.3.6, using the sample image and a more complicated 4-page project. It's possible that if I still used LibreOffice on a regular basis, I would encounter it again.

Confirming with

Version: 5.4.1.2
Build ID: ea7cb86e6eeb2bf3a5af73a8f7777ac570321527
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.13; UI render: default;
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group

When editing an object within a group, e.g. one of the cells on the bottom right-hand side of your drawing, if a double-click is made on a cell that is on the top left hand-side, then the whole range of objects is selected, and you have to double-click again to gain access to the new object that you wish to edit.

I honestly don't remember whether Draw has always behaved like this, or whether this behaviour started more recently.

Still occurs in 6.4.3.2. The issues are (1) whether a single-click or double-click is enough to exit a group, and (2) after trying to exit and failing, the effects of a single-click or double-click onto another group. I think single-click was enough to exit in ClarisWorks/Appleworks, I'm not sure about other drawing software.

Steps to reproduce using sample file:

1. Double-click on one group to enter it.

2. Single-click outside to exit.

3. Double-click on another group to enter it.

4. Try to move something in the second group.

Dear MarjaE,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa
