Description João Paulo 2023-05-09 00:00:25 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice doesn't access the superscript OpenType feature ("sups") as it did before on certain fonts. This makes the footnotes and endnotes not well-formatted, if you use the superscript feature instead of the superscript emulation.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On Windows 11, install the Merriweather Sans typeface family (https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/merriweather-sans);
2. Open the attached sample document (it was already formatted to show the bug, with the superscript *emulation* disabled);
3. Verify that the footnotes' characters are not superscript, even if the "Footnote anchor" text style is correctly set ("Merriweather Sans Light:sups");
4. However, press F11, find and edit the "Footnote anchor" text style to use "Calibri", and select the superscript feature (alternatively, just type "Calibri:sups" without quotes on the typeface name field). LibreOffice correctly uses the superscript feature of the Calibri font, while it doesn't use the Merriweather Sans superscript feature.

Actual Results:
LibreOffice doesn't use the superscript feature built into some fonts.

Expected Results:
LibreOffice should use the superscript feature built into every font.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
The superscript ("sups") OpenType feature is not the same as the LibreOffice emulated superscript:

The superscript *feature* is located at <press F11>, go to Character style, go to a text style ("Footnote anchor", for example), modify the text style, go to Font tab, activate the Features button, select the superscript option and verify if the superscript *emulation* is disabled so to not have any conflict.

The superscript *emulation* is located at the Position tab (instead of the Font tab), and does not gives the optimized superscript glyphs made by the font designer.

Sample document showing Writer does not use the "sups" OpenType feature to show true superscript instead of simulated superscript.

The Footnote Anchor style in this document was modified to not simulate the superscript: I changed the font position to normal and selected the OpenType feature "sups" (superscript), as you can see in the Writer UI or the document internals.

To verify it, just open this document and see that the digit "1" is not shown as "¹".
