x-bar example with 2 cases in Word and also on LibreOffice

When I open a Word docx file specifying that I want to open the file using LibreOffice, all x overlined with bar that are defined in an equation are replaced with an X overlapped with an accent ' !

The DOCX file has been written using MS Word 2016.

I have added a ZIP file with 2 PNG files. The WORD png file is a printscreen of an example on Word where x-bar is correctly displayed. The LibreOffice png file is a printscreen on LibreOffice where x-bar is incorrectly displayed.

x-bar character is generated using "equation" in Word because this character don't exist in unicode table.

If I type the x-bar character as Unicode character typing x + Alt + 0 + 7 + 7 + 2 where digit are entered from Digit Pad, the x-bar character is correctly converted.

The problem happens only in converting x-bar character in equation.

I have upgraded from from 6.2.7.1 to 6.2.4.2 and I have same problem.

The word document in ZIP file contains the last word File; that is the file where the first x-bar character is an Unicode character not an equation. The x-bar character that is incorrectly replaced is only in equation.

You meant 6.3.4 I suppose.
Version must correspond to the earliest one.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this.

Let's try with https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/85138/
Comment 3 schlebe 2019-12-16 16:40:33 UTC
Yes I mean 6.3.4.2.
Comment 4 schlebe 2020-01-02 11:41:30 UTC
I have read https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/85138/

and I have seen changed source; but I think that the correction is not perfect because MS_COMBOVERLINE has been added just below MS_COMBOBAR.

That means that COMBOVERLINE is treated as COMBBAR !

I have read HXX source and I have seen that COMBBAR=0x0304 and COMBOVERLINE=0x0305.

In Unicode table and on MS WORD these 2 characters has a little difference. COMBBAR is shorter than COMBOVERLINE.

I think that to resolve this issue the value of 'acc' variable for MS_COMBBAR must be distinct from MS_COMBOVERLINE value.

I say that just for helping you to solve this issue.

Just for information. I have seen on LibreOffice that sometime the X variable has an accent and sometime an overline.

The reason is that on MS Word, you have the possiblity to create a short overline (this is an accent) and a long overline.

When I use an overline, the overlines variable is correctly displayed.

The problem occurs only when I use an accent.

I have tried using last 6.4.0.3 release.

Dear Schlebe, I can't reproduce the bug with LibreOffice 7.2.5.2, under Kubuntu 18.04 x64. Have you tried the last LibreOffice version under Windows?
Comment 7 schlebe 2022-01-13 16:19:32 UTC
I tried on Windows 10 and the 2 x have now a bar above x.

The problem for x-bar in text is clearly resolved.

But the x-bar display in formula in LibreOffice is not very perfect versus MS Word version.

I have added a picture file so you can quickly see the difference.

The first part is LibreOffice and the last part is MS Word.

Must I create a new bug for this ?

Can also create a new bug because LibreOffice doesn't keep color in formula as MS Word do ?

I confirm this but with
Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.11; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: ro-RO (ro_RO.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

At Zoom factor of 100% is like in the screenshot, the line is almost over the text.

At a Zoom factor of 300% is much better in LibreOffice.

But as reporter have said in comment 4 maybe there is a different implemenation between Word and LibreOffice.

I tested with first and last version and this issue is already there.

This problem is not corrected.

This bug was solved meanwhile.
I have tested with 24.2, the version that will be released next month.
See screenshot.

Solved.
Comment 15 schlebe 2024-01-20 07:08:07 UTC
Sorry, but this bug is not resolved.

Why ?

Because your PrintScreen is showing a zoomed screen until 180%.

But, in fact, when the zoom is normal (=100%) this issue is already there !

Can you test again with the version 24 ?

For your information, I have also tested in growing font's size until 20 and using Arial Font on MS Word and Libre Office. I want to see if problem is linked to zooming or is also reproductible in growing only font's size.

On MS Word, all works correctly.

On LibreOffice, only text in paragraph is growing ! Text in formula keep his size !!!

This is perhaps a second issue !

I have reopen this issue.
Comment 16 BogdanB 2024-01-20 11:30:01 UTC
No problem from 75% to 440%.
Comment 17 BogdanB 2024-01-20 11:44:14 UTC
Even with different font sizes, and different zoom value, no problem.
I tried also with 7.6, and no problem.

7.6 is a stable version, you can download and used it as day by day version. Can you try again to test it? If you still have problem try in LibreOffice: Help - Restart In Safe Mode - Factory Settings, and see if your problem persist. If yes, could be a Windows problem.

 Version: 7.6.4.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e19e193f88cd6c0525a17fb7a176ed8e6a3e2aa1

Comment 18 schlebe 2024-01-20 16:18:02 UTC
I have tested again with version 7.6.4.1 (see my PrintScree) and the problem is already there.

The "x with bar" is badly displayed for 100 zoom. But "x with bar" in first paragraph in text is correctly displayed !

I don't think that it is a window problem.

BUT ... it is perhaps a problem linked to Latex version used !

For Latex, I use following Latex EXE

C:\Users\berna\AppData\Local\Programs\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64\latex.exe

I don't know if i'm responsible of this Latex installation or if it is a standard installation from LibreOffice.

I have same problem.
Comment 21 BogdanB 2024-01-20 20:29:33 UTC
I see the problem you notice in the screenshot from comment 19 when I use a Zoom less than 75%. Let's mark back as new.
