Sample document showing Writer does not use the "sups" OpenType feature to show true superscript instead of simulated superscript.
The Footnote Anchor style in this document was modified to not simulate the superscript: I changed the font position to normal and selected the OpenType feature "sups" (superscript), as you can see in the Writer UI or the document internals.
To verify it, just open this document and see that the digit "1" is not shown as "¹".
