Description vena.cava@virgin.net 2024-04-23 07:23:32 UTC
Description:
I have been using Strike-through text, but it is quite clunky to use the drop-down menu. There is no text shortcut do to this, but there is for other text formatting. There is also no shortcut for single-underline text, which would be a popular option.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. click on the "Format" menu to get the drop-down menu.
2. click on "Text" (top of the list) to get the drop-down menu for text formatting.
3. there isn't any keyboard shortcuts for some of the text formatting options including strike-through and and single-underline.

Actual Results:
It would be nice to have more keyboard shortcuts for text formatting options, to make repetitive tasks easier.

Expected Results:
as above

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Formatting text can be clunky using the drop-down menus for repetitive text formatting tasks. Keyboard shortcuts would make it easier.

You can define your own shortcut:
Menu/Tools/Customize/Keyboard

I did not know that about custom shortcuts, and I have been using OpenOffice for years. Most users probably do not know about custom shortcuts.

Nevertheless, built in strike-through and underline shortcuts would be useful.

Double-underline has a shortcut, but single underline does not, so this seems to be inconsistent and illogical.

What user interface do you use?
I can see the 'simple underline' just to the right of the italics. Same place as in OpenOffice. Which is also customisable like LibreOffice.

Usually taking a light review of manuals is a great help, not to learn everything, but to help remind you of something, when the need comes.

My bug is to report missing keyboard shortcuts.

There is button for single underline, but there is not a keyboard shortcut for single underline nor for strike-through.

For such shortcuts, they have always been so.

You like more of them, but there are no shortcuts missing.

Or maybe you have not active:
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/View - Visibility - Shortcuts
from 7.6 version, the option is available only on
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Advanced - Open expert configuration
see the attached screenshot.

Single underline has Ctrl + U assigned. It is visible when hovering over the toolbar button. However, it is not shown in the menu, which is a known issue but was closed as "won't fix" in bug 138517 because of some roadblock.

It has been requested before, but because of the lack of available keybindings, it has been decided to not add one because it's not used as often as the others - in favour of user-customisation as needed. See bug 64849.
Same would go for double-strikethrough, in my opinion.

So closing as "not a bug", hope that makes sense. Hopefully the Customize dialog allows you to set it up exactly as you want it.
