a page from my latest novel (contents is copyright)

In one instance only, I unset the paragraph property "Merge with next paragraph" (on the Borders tab) but it gets reset every time I save and reload the document.

Note that I am saving in .doc format.

Detail: In the attached extract from a larger document, the paragraph starting "High up on the hill,..." should have a double line border before and after it. These borders are automatically implemented because of the style properties of the paragraphs either side.

The borders are shown correctly PROVIDED the preceding paragraph (starting "Then, as the Hawk...") does not have "Merge with next paragraph" checked. Unfortunately, every time I uncheck this option, the next time I reload the document after saving it, "Merge with next paragraph" has become checked again.

Is there any way to make "Merge with next paragraph" remain unchecked over a save and re-open?

Summary: I was able to confirm the existence of this bug. It seems that the setting for the "Merge with next paragraph" check box in paragraph options is reset when a document is saved and closed. I replicated this on Windows 10 in both LibreOffice 5.1.3.2 and OpenOffice 5.2.0, so this bug is probably inherited from OpenOffice. Below are the steps I took to reproduce this. Note that the steps are identical for LibreOffice and OpenOffice.

Steps:
1. Open a new Writer Document.
2. Write a paragraph.
3. Highlight the paragraph and right click it.
4. Select Paragraph. Under the Borders, uncheck the "Merge with next paragraph" check box
5. Save the document, close LibreOffice, and Reopen the document
6. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to go back to the "Merge with next paragraph" check box.

Expected Result: The "Merge with next paragraph" check box will be unchecked

Actual Result: The "Merge with next paragraph" check box will be checked, even though the user unchecked it and saved the document

I forgot to mention that in step 5, save the document as a .doc

I can't reproduce it in

Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+

I can reproduce in Linux / LO 6.0dev.

I don't see any comparable setting in MS Word. Since .doc is a Microsoft format, I'm guessing that "merge [border] with next paragraph" doesn't have a comparable option - so we can't round-trip that setting. Suggesting NOTABUG. Please provide a Microsoft-composed document illustrating the problem to re-open.
