It shows how it looks. Using Japanese characters.

Reproduction Procedure:

1. open LibreOffice>Preferences...>LibreOffice Writer>General
2. check the Use square page mode for text grid checkbox
3. open Format>Page...>Page tab
4. set Orientation in Page Format to "Landscape"
5. set Text Direction in Page Format to "Right-to-left (vertical)"
6. apply those changes and move to Text Grid tab
7. set Grid in Text Grid to "Grid (lines and characters)"
8. if there is a Snap to characters checkbox, check it.
This checkbox does not always appear.
9. press OK to return to document window

Experienced behavior:

A line of characters ignores grid cells.

Expected behavior:

Each grid cell has one character.

Additional information:

I found the Snap to grid checkbox in LibreOffice>Preferences...>LibreOffice Writer>Grid, but I cannot find any difference regarding the problem.

@Ichiro : hi, I don't see an option "Use square page mode for text grid" in Writer > General in my master build 5.1 alpha for OSX. Is this an option that is only visible when JP locale (UI/lang) is used ?
Comment 2 Ichiro MASSE 2015-07-21 01:06:34 UTC
Hi.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the Use square... checkbox appears or not when other locale is used.
But without the steps 1 and 2, the situation seems identical. I added the
steps 1 and 2 because some of my Japanese friends advised me to check the
checkbox to see if the issue shows any difference.
I appreciate any help. Thanks.

In order to see "Snap to characters" option, you have to enable "Use square page mode for text grid" in "Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer - General"
