Created attachment 116945 [details] screen shot When opening a document that is in write-protected state, e.g. when opening an XLS file downloaded via Firefox, the controls to * zoom * set orientation * margins are disabled (greyed out). In my opinion they should not be disabled, as from a user point of view the controls do not alter the document contents in any way.
There are conflicting points of view about this issue - developer point of view probably not valid, user point of view perhaps valid. Requesting UX input here.
I confirm it with LO built oct 21 for OSX How to repro • create new calc document • save it • lock it (in Finder check Locked in Get Info) • open it with libreoffice • call print preview

I can confirm (LiBo 5.0.3.1 GNU/Linux Debian KDE) but is not "zoom" (lower right) but "Scaling factor" in preview that is blocked. For UX: OMHO with read only documents I would warn the user when he opens it and let him work on it freely. Whe he saves will be prompted with a "Can't save is read only, save with a differen name (save as)" or something like that.
@myself: At least 5.x, when you open a read only document you are asked if you want to modify it, so you can have what I was suggesting. Nevertheless I agree that those settings (scale, orientation and margins), even are usually saved inside the document as document properties, could simply be allowed and then discarded considering their importance in the goal of correctly printing the document.
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
We discussed the issue in the design meeting and agreed on NAB. Only scaling is disabled and this function changes the print view definition, which is part of the original document.
