Description Stan 2015-05-13 00:11:35 UTC
Unicode input works correctly in 4.4.2.2 for Calc on my iMac.

I just got a MacBook Air and downloaded LibreOffice for it. In both 4.3.7 and 4.4.3, unicode input does not work: when typing Tibetan characters they do not stack.
In addition, the keyboard shortcut for switching from US to Tibetan keyboard that works in other applications does not work in Calc.

Where can I download 4.4.2.2 for the MacBook?

I think you need to enable Complex Text Layout (CTL) in LibreOffice > Preferences > Language Settings > Languages. Maybe you’ll also need to set “Dzongkha” as the default CTL language (in the same dialog).

For those of us unfamiliar with Macs, what is that shortcut?

The same download should work for any Mac capable of running 64-bit software.

iMac, LibreOffice v. 4.4.2.2: with no changes to the Languages preferences (neither Asian nor CTL checked), the keystroke for changing keyboards is recognized and Tibetan text is rendered correctly.

MacBook, LibreOffice v. 4.4.3.2: by checking CTL and choosing Tibetan (India) in Languages preferences, Tibetan text is now rendered correctly. HOWEVER, the keystroke for changing keyboards is not recognized--it is necessary to switch to the Finder, change keyboards, and return to LibreOffice Calc every time I want to switch languages.
This makes two different behaviors on the different machines: recognizing the keystroke for switching keyboards and needing or not needing CTL enabled in Languages preferences.

It is user configurable. I have mine set to CTL+OPT+CMD+Spacebar

@Stan: I tried this with switching between Chinese and Japanes variants on my Macmini with a USB Apple keyboard.

The default OS shortcut for input switching on my system is : Alt Cmd Spacebar

With LO 4422 :
Switching works in Writer without activating CTL in Writer module settings

However, switching doesn't work in Calc, the cell with focus only enters spaces, instead of changing the input language so I can't confirm your first statement tht it worked previously or currently works with that version.

I also get exactly the same results as above for current master build :
Version: 5.0.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: ce30343fcbee32d002181bf69dd3e935e4072193

Also tested on
Version: 4.3.5.2
Build ID: 3a87456aaa6a95c63eea1c1b3201acedf0751bd5

Exactly the same results - switching works in Writer, not in Calc

Version: 4.1.4.2

Same results : works in Writer, not in Calc

The version where switching works in Calc is:

Version: 4.4.2.2

Locale: en_

System:
 Model Name:	iMac
  Model Identifier:	iMac14,1
  Processor Name:	Intel Core i5
  Processor Speed:	2.7 GHz
  Number of Processors:	1
  Total Number of Cores:	4

  L3 Cache:	4 MB
  Memory:	8 GB

Where can I download 4.4.2.2 again to try it on the Macbook?
Thank you.

Thank you--I downloaded 4.4.2.2 on the MacBook and keyboard switching still does not work. The current situation regarding keyboard switching is:

Keyboard switching DOES NOT WORK on:
Version: 4.4.2.2
Build ID: c4c7d32d0d49397cad38d62472b0bc8acff48dd6 Locale: en_
(or any later version)

on MacBoopkAir7,1, Intel Core i5

NOTE: keyboard switching works correctly in Writer, it's only in Calc where it does not function on the MacBook Air.

Keyboard switching WORKS CORRECTLY on:
Version: 4.4.2.2
Build ID: c4c7d32d0d49397cad38d62472b0bc8acff48dd6
Locale: en_

on iMac14,1, Intel Core i5

NOTE: keyboard switching works correctly in both Writer and Calc on the iMac.
Comment 9 Stan 2015-05-14 19:24:26 UTC
I have just verified that in 4.4.3, keyboard switching in CALC is correct on the iMac and doesn't work on the MacBook Air. So no difference between 4.4.2 and 4.4.3--the difference is on the machine.

What could it be about the MacBook Air to make the behavior different?
Comment 10 Alex Thurgood 2015-12-09 13:54:21 UTC
@Stan : is this still a problem today with the latest versions of everything ?
Comment 11 Stan 2015-12-09 19:09:22 UTC
Sorry--I have been diverted onto other projects and am not currently using LibreOffice....
