Description Callegar 2015-03-05 12:15:53 UTC
Some users need to work with documents in multiple languages.

For this reason, it would be great to be able to launch document wizards in different languages.

For instance, one may need to create a business letter or a fax covern in English and then in German or in Italian.

This is currently very cumbersome even if you have all the needed language modules. In fact, the wizard language selection is based on the interface language. If a user has the interface in German, he will get the German wizards, if he has it in English, he will get the English wizard.

This means that an English user, with the English interface, can use the wizards to create a, say, Italian letter only by following these steps:

1) Tools -> options -> switch interface language to Italian
2) Restart libreoffice (this is necessary, otherwise LibO does not pick up the new interface)
3) Launch the wizard with the Italian interface (he/she may not be accustomed to it)
4) Complete the wizard, save the file
5) Tools -> options -> switch interface language back to English
6) Restart libreoffice (this is necessary, otherwise LibO does not pick up the new interface)
7) Open saved file and work on it

This seems much more complicated than it could be.

What I suggest is the following:

Wizards are currently organized in steps. The first step should be made the language selection for the wizard, with a default pre-configured to the "default language for the documents" and not the the user interface language and with a dropbox providing the other languages for wich the wizards are available.

Can this be an idea?

Otherwise, one could a least provide a config option for the wizard languages, that does not require LibO to be restarted or the interface language to be changed.

Hi Sergio, it's not a solution to switch the UI to get the right settings when we are at document level, you're right. And adding a local selector as a first step would be a nice to have. Set as New - Sophie
