Description lucs 2015-02-07 04:14:02 UTC
There are few minor changes that could improve dramatically the export process efficiency:
1. Remember the last export settings as filetype, file location, parameters;
2. Add the most used file formats used for export at the top of the list. Usually, only few file formats are used more frequent. After the user exported few times to a specific format, that file type should be displayed at the top of the File Format drop-down list.
3. Add "Export to [filename]" in File menu above "Export..." after the user exported a file first time. This way, the user could export again with a single click a minor change in the opened file.

Workflow details for pt.3:
1. Open a new file and create some content
2. Click File > Export... to open the Export dialog and setup the parameters
3. Export the file with a certain name and format (let's say: TEST.PNG).
4. Make some changes in the opened file.
5. In the File menu will appear "Export to TEST.PNG" above the Export... item.
6. Click "Export to TEST.PNG" to overwrite the existing file with a new version created with exactly the same settings/parameters as the previous export. This action don't need to open again the Export dialog window and will simply overwrite the existing file.

If the user wants to open the Export dialog window in order to create a different file, it may choose Export... instead of the "Export to TEST.PNG"

4. Also remember the modified size of the Export dialog window between sessions.

Please, don't confirm (set status to NEW) your own bug report.

Set status back to UNCONFIRMED.

The last file location is remembered in File > Save, so it would be useful that it was remembered here as well. Filetype and parameters arent saved in other dialogs, so if it was saved in all the dialogs, it would be good.

In writer, there are only 6 export file formats and some will be more frequently used by one user than the others, so there isnt much of a need to sort this according to user behaviour, as it just adds complexity to keep track of such things rather than having a static list.

I've seen this feature in GIMP and liked it primarily because File > Save doesnt allow me to save to formats i'd like to save to. The File menu is bloated and it would not be preferable to add more entries to it, but if File > Export was turned into a submenu, then it would be a fine feature to have if it would be possible implement it.

Indeed, Writer has only 6, but Draw has 17 (6 of them starting with P so you can't select it typing P only once). For Writer and Calc it makes more sense to use a frequently used list for Save As dialog.

Looking at Draw's export filetypes, i'd assume the list could likely be reduced to the widely used formats. As stated previously, turning a static filetype list into a frequency sorted list is highly unlikley to happen as i dont think any application does the same. What i've done is submitted bug 89360 to request that dialogs always remember the filetype.

Let's move forward with this enhancement request.

As this ticket consists of three ideas we should talk about '#1: Remember the last settings' here (raising the importance as long we do not have .uno:ReExport). Settings should be stored per session, not just for the current document.
If we store settings for the workplace (settings retained after restart) it should be a general feature not restricted for the export dialog.

Remarks:
#2, messing up with the menu order is never a good idea- I would refrain from this change.

#3 Introduce .uno:ReExport is a nice idea, filed an extra ticket for that in bug 114404.

Changing priority back to 'medium' since the number of duplicates is lower than 5

Is still actual!

For example, in LOo Draw I want to use same filetype (PNG) and same resolution (300dpi instead of 96dpi) in Export dialog.
