Create a simple spreadsheet Select a set of rows to sort Say "data, sort" with the default settings BOOM. It crashes. It didn't used to in 4.2.6, but 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 both crash and burn. Expect: that something as simple as sorting a few rows should just work. Operating System: Ubuntu Version: 4.3.0.4 release Last worked in: 4.2.6.2 release
Not reproducible for me with version 4.3.2.0.0+ build at home under Ubuntu 14.04 x86-64. Which version are you using, the build provided by Ubuntu or the build downloaded from LibreOffice website? Did you try to reset your user profile? https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile Set status to NEEDINFO. Very strange. I reset my profile, that did nothing. So then I exported the spreadsheet as an Excel. Then I opened it and it was able to be sorted without problem. Then I opened the (unsorted) Excel saved as ODS; and this new ODS was able to be sorted. So there is something wrong with data migration between Libreoffice versions, but search me as to what the problem actually is.
Please, could you attach the file to this bug report, if it does not contain confidential data? Best regards. JBF
Following last Jean-Baptiste's comment, I put it NEEDINFO.
Created attachment 105389 [details] xls example Open xls file. Sort columns A and B together. Libreoffice crashes and starts recovery process. Windows 7 x64 Libreoffice 4.3.1.1 Reproduced in 4.3.1.1 build c4b15cd4d00dec6b266fa830b4ba73e31ae6ce73 This is a small subset from larger sheet. Sorted correctly in all Libreoffice 4.2.5 and earlier versions. I can sort the bottom 22 rows together and it is fine, as soon as I add the a 23rd row it crashes.
Just updated to 4.3.1.2 build 958349dc3b25111dbca392fbc281a05559ef6848 still exhibits same crash. If I do a save as on the sheet as .ods, close Libreoffice, reopen the sheet. It will sort without crashing. Then I can save as that .ods file back to .xls, close and reopen the new sheet and it will sort without crashing. I can copy and paste the two columns from the attached sheet into a brand new sheet and save a .xls, close and reopen that new sheet and it will crash on sorting.
Thank you Philip, but bug reporter did not describe the same steps to reproduce the problem. He did not mention xls format. So not sure if it is the same bug. Please, could you open another bug report with _your_ step by step description? It is better for bug tracking to mark, eventually, your bug report as duplicate of this one, than having two different bugs in the same report. Still waiting for the file from ron. Set status to NEEDINFO. Please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided requested informations. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards. JBF
Created attachment 106198 [details] Spreadsheet causes crash when sorting When sorting this data by the "% Yld" column, descending order, LO Calc crashes. However, by simply changing the file extension to .ods the problem goes away.

Just installed Pre-release version 4.3.2.1 Build ID: f9b3ad49d92181b0a1fe7e76f785a2c2cd0847d, neither attached files crash when sorting in this version.
Just tried the latest nightly build and it seems that the problem is no longer present -- at least is is no long present in that development build.
Ok, closing this bug as WorksForMe. @ron@ronware.org : please reopen this bug report if you still en counter the same crash. In such a case please attach a test file. Best regards. JBF
