Description jarod.lop 2014-06-28 09:00:41 UTC
Problem description:

The startup screen changed from a really attractive and easy-to-use interface into something really hideous that couldn't have been made with someone who actually uses a computer.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Startup Libre Office

Current behavior:

It display a terrible startup screen. I'm not sure if there was some error in the UI or something, but its so terrible it couldn't have been intentional.

Expected behavior:

It should display the already well-designed startup screen. Or at the very least, provide an option to revert to the old startup screen. I mean, that's just basic common courtesy.
Operating System: Windows 7
Version: 4.1.0.4 release

first of all 4.1.0.4 is a very old and obsolete release.
you are strongly encouraged to upgrade to 4.1.6.2 or even better to 4.2.5.2

please provide a screenshot of what you consider a terrible startup screen...
maybe your user profile has been corrupted and you see anomalous look?
we need to see what you see :-)

see here how to reset the user profile:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

remember that start screen has been changed in 4.2.x in respect to 4.1.x
see this page to see the new look: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.2#New_start_screen

I set status to NEEDINFO. please provide feedback

tommy, IMO this is this an invalid report: a complain about something that someone does not like. And of course each has the right on his own likes, but a report like this brings doesn't lead us anywhere.
Comment 3 tommy27 2014-06-29 18:39:55 UTC
@Cor
my interpretation of jarod report is that he is seeing something anomalous in his LibO start screen.

please note that he reported the issue against 4.1.0 where the starts screen still hadn't the new look we have now in 4.2.x, and he says that the start screen was different than before, while we now that it was the same in 4.0.x and 3.6.x

so I strongly suspect he had some kind of corruption of the user profile or installation problem that scrambled it's start screen look in 4.1.0

so I revert status to NEEDINFO waiting for his feedback and/or screenshot

LibO 4.1.0 start screen

@jarod
this is the LibO start screen as it looked in 4.1.0.4 and previous releases.
are you complaining about that look or to something else?

Very friendly Tommy. Indeed it's good to point to the possibility to try a fresh userprofile
  wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
and that there are new versions and that there is abundant user-support.
  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/community-support/
But the latter is not here ;)

4.2 has new startscreen.

jarod, setting to invalid because even if something is wrong with the 4.1 startcenter, it will not receive and fix.

Is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release?
4.3RC1: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Please also try resetting your user profile and let us know if that helps: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

You can reopen this bug, should the issue persist with a newer LO version.
