Guess we need some Linux user to confirm this?

Could you please try resetting your user profile to make sure the issue is not related to that: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resetting_the_user_profile

I have separate profiles for Lo 4.1.3 and 4.2.0,

My system is Kubuntu 13.10 x86_64 Intel Q6600 with 8 GB ram

I do not reproduce under Gnome/Ubuntu 13.10 x86_64 and Version: 4.2.0.1

Nonetheless, resetting the userprofile should be worth a try. Seems related to your machine since it's not reproducible for others. Also a short 25% spike isn't a big problem. But I agree unresponsiveness is of course.

I do not reproduce too with branch 4.2 (currently 4.2.1.0.0+) under Ubuntu 13.10 x86-64 with Unity window manager.
As Sophie uses Gnome, I guess your problem comes from KDE integration.

Please, if you have a Gnome Shell or a Unity session, could you try under these WM ?

Best regards. JBF

With several QA members unable to reproduce I'm afraid this is probably environment specific and we'll never be able to reproduce.

krzysiek - can you start from a fresh profile and install 4.2.0.4 release and see if you still experience the issue?

I'm closing as WFM - if you can still reproduce with the stable release and a fresh profile mark as UNCONFIRMED and we'll try to get someone else to try.

Thanks for helping us out

I'm sorry for long delay,

I can still reproduce it, sort of, now I'm on Kubuntu 14.04 and Libreoffice 4.2.1.1.
There is still same freeze (much shorter one) after unselecting columns in Sheet, but only first time in the sheet, after that all OK untill you create another sheet. It is not ideal but liveable. I will monitor situation and if there is regression, I will again open this bug.

Best regards
Krzysiek
