Description Ljiljan 2013-06-30 21:07:08 UTC
Problem description:

when copying something from Writer or other program into Impress, it is not neccesary to maintain original formatting because text on Impress slides are supposed to be larger and pretty standardized over all slides (for example, usually font size 28 is appropriate)... but when copying from Writer, all format styles from Writer are copied...

Steps to reproduce:
1. Write something in Writer using font 12
2. Select text and copy it to clipboard (CTRL + C)
3. Go to Impress, and click main text area
4. Paste text (CTRL + V)

Current behavior:
Original formatting from Writer will be kept.

Expected behavior:
Standard formatting in Impress should be adopted.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.0.4.2 release

Hi Ljiljan, thanks for reporting.

I think for this purpose is Paste special as unformatted text.
You can find it in Menu/Edit/Paste special.

Change to resolved notabug, please if you are not agree reopen it.

Well, I am aware that this is not a bug, but it is good way to improve Impress. When creating presentation, we copy text from Writer or other program - would it be nice to Impress format it automatically instead of keeping original format. I was using MS Power Point for a long time and this is how things are done there.

Second, when I click in any LO application on menu Help -> Send Feedback, bug page is opened. I thought feedback on how to improve LO is welcome here as well? Fixing bugs are important, but improving LO is important as well in order to get more people start using it.

For these reasons, I will reopened it... unless nobody find this useful, I agree to close it.

Hi Ljiljan, think about what can be an enhancement for you it is not for others.

You can use the Ctrl+Shift+V to access directly to paste special.

I appreciate the power of the mass opinion, but I believe that individual opinion is important as well.

I am pretty sure that user that decide to switch from MS Office to Libre Office will find this annoying, because I did. Now, I am using CTRL + SHIFT + V - which is great (and would be even better if I don't need to select Unformatted text every time and then press Enter), but I believe this enhancement will be useful for all future users.

Imagine this situation - you have seven different headings in document in Writer placed on different part of pages so you cannot select them all... and you want to create one slide in Impress with seven bullets... I need to switch seven times between Libre Office and seven times to press CTRL + SHIFT + V, select Unformatted text and press Enter...

If my approach is implemented, max. number of clicks is: 7 times switching between application + seven times pressing CTRL + V = 14 actions in total

In current approach = 7 times switching between application (ALT + TAB), seven times pressing CTRL + SHIFT + V + seven times selecting Unformatted text and seven times pressing Enter.. = 28 actions in total

This is not going to happen - it becomes a debate back and forth about the default behavior. The option is there to past special. If we changed this there would be an uproar and people screaming to undo the default behavior. Closing, please don't reopen it.

We could at least create better (default) shortcut for Paste special (unformatted).

However, I discovered that I can assign almost any keyboard shortcut for "Paste special unformatted" so it is not a big deal anymore (for me). But this is not the most comfortable approach for most users.
