Description Zeki Bildirici 2012-12-10 20:51:53 UTC
Hi,

Problem description:

The problem is about the file opening performance of Calc. We have an .ods file and it gathers the data from 22 text files.

When opening this file it takes to much time, Calc asks to update the fields, after that Calc stops responding nearly 10 minutes. When it starts to respond it freezes every move or click.

In previous versions, the performance was not good but better than this.

Also Microsft Office Excel 2010 performs very good than LibreOffice Calc. It responds in 1 minute and it is fluent. (but there is some formatting issues color etc)

I've checked it in OpenOffice 3.2.1 on my old linux distro Pardus, the opening time is good and the it is responsive and ready just in a moment, file performance was not perfect but fluent.

I've checked it on Gnumeric and while opening it gives General ODF error:

General ODF error
Multiply the following error code by 100 :)
"
Unable to parse '[.N3]' ('Çizelge ismi gerekli.')
Unknown condition 'cell-content()>[.N3]' encountered, ignoring.
.
.
.
.
"

And Caligra Sheets opens very well but both do not ask to update the fields.

Also LibreOffice 3.6.4 performs well if we do not update the cells.

I cannot share the file here, but i may send it by e-mail to the assignee due o some privacy issues.

Best regards,
Zeki

LibreOffice 3.5.7 works fine too.

@Zeki Bildirici
Is it possible to produce a file which can be attached, but which does not contain any sensitive information (and maybe a set of text files for it to get data from)? It will be very difficult to reproduce the data otherwise.

e.g. could the text files have any confidential data replaced with random data?

Reproduced in LibreOffice 4.0 Beta1 :(
Comment 7 Kohei Yoshida 2013-01-04 01:08:12 UTC
For me it updates all the links under a second, which I think is reasonable. What's the spec of your machine?

My laptop has:
AMD Turion X2 2,2 Ghz, 2GB ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8200M integrated 256 Mb graphics memory.

My friends laptop is older than mine, a HP pavillion dv5000, which has:
AMD Turion 64, 2.00 GHz, 1GB (2x512) DDR2 RAM, ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M, 128MB. He uses Windows verison.

My firend says, LibreOffice 3.5.7 has almot %50 better performance than LibreOffice 3.6.4 while opening an working on this file.

Also i tried it on my wifes's laptop which is quite powerful Dell Inspiron 1545
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Ghz, 4 GB ram, Ati Radeon HD 4300

Opening and updating the cells is fine with the Dell laptop, takes about 1 min. However it is impossible to browse in the sheet and change to another sheet in more than 5 minutes, every click makes Calc Not Responding and clicking to another sheet tab does not apply and gots stacked in the first sheet.

Hi,

After installing 4.0.0.3 and 4.0.1 and Portable versions, i want to update the current situation from 3.6.x to 4.0.x

4.0.0.3 and 4.0.1 are great. I'm no longer to be able to reproduce non responsibility. Updates in a minute and responds quite well.

Also i have tried in my business desktop which has dual core processor and 2 gigs ram but integrated gfx card, portable versions was cool too.

Sadly, there is no gain from 4.x versions. He tried portable versions, deactivated java, updated java also deactivated spellcheck but no performance improvements there :(

He says that, with the same laptop, with the same file there is no performance problem with Microsoft Excel.

Dell laptop also gained performance, updates in less than half minute and responds well.

I want to say that there is a great improvement of the performance regarding this file, but sadly something has not responded to my friends humble laptop :(

With a clean installation of 4.0.1 and removing the registry entries, the problem is solved for my friend too.

I'm very happy this bug is solved with the 4.0 release.

Also my friend said me to transmit his salutes and gratitudes to the Calc hackers. He said that he was so happy of its performance and deinstalled MS Excel.

The bug is solved.

Thanks to whom had worked on it, especially Kohei Yoshida for the personal disturbances i've given to him :)

Best regards,
Zeki
