Description msuhammer 2012-02-21 10:06:58 UTC
Every time I try to open Libre it says that the program has stopped working. I run Vista Ultimate and it is fully patched. Have tried re-installing and repair but still get same problem.

Since 3.5.2 my LibreOffice is also crashing, immediately after opening a document (out of explorer). I discovered, that it will work when i'm opening LibreOffice and load the document using open file dialog.

Same for Calc and Writer, for xls and ott files. It's crashing after the status bar progress has 100% - then no warning, no eventlog, process killed. Next time it tries to restore but when opening by cmd/explorer it won't work.
I'm running Win7 amd64.

Importance high, blocker: because it's a no-msg startup crash, where the most users want to kill you (the dev).
Comment 2 Uli 2012-04-16 00:22:09 UTC
The crashes are more often... Also using open file dialog it's crashing many times. However it works sometimes, when opening by menu.
Have Win7 amd64, Java 6 Update 31 and did install LibreOffice as Upgrade from 3.4. In 3.4 I had not that problem.
Is there any way to get some debug information?

I have the same problem. But with an Intel 64 processor - T4500.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I am not able to reproduce this. It works for most people. So, it seems to occur only in some special circumstances. IT should not block the release => lowering the severity a bit.

We need more information to get this sorted:

1. does it help you to start LO with fresh user configuration?
   * make sure that soffice.bin is not in task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL)
   * rename "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\LibreOffice\3
(note that it is hidden directory)
   * run LO again

2. Try to remove extensions, especially these that does not come from the
   official installer

3. If nothing helps. Please try to provide a backtrace, see
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fppBTs215yc&noredirect=1

Builds with debuginfo information can be found at

I deleted the old 3 folder, that's in Win7 named
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\3

Next start LibreOffice creates a new folder 3, but ends the first time without notice. The second start does run, but the crashes remain on opening an existing document. The 'restore' will even success, but then the process terminates again.

> 2. Try to remove extensions
Don't have extensions. It's official installed, orginially in 3.4, upgraded to 3.5 and updated to 3.5.2.
Only change in custom installation is that i don't install the quick starter 'feature'.

Have now updated to 3.5.3 RC1, LibreOffice is back! ;) Did not need to delete 3 again, works now for me, on opening from shell and also on opening using the dialog.

Great, 3.5.3-rc1 works, so let's close this bug.

Thanks a lot for testing a feedback.
Comment 7 Uli 2012-04-26 10:25:43 UTC
It's hard to figure out. It works now most times, but not every time (opening using dblclick) as in 3.5.2 (now i use 3.5.3 RC1). The document is opened, visible, but then crashes so LibreOffice wants to 'restore'. I canceled restore, the second try it works again.

Do you not have something like verbose error reporting and logging?
Comment 8 Petr Mladek 2012-04-27 04:49:01 UTC
What could help is the backtrace from the crash. The steps are shown at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fppBTs215yc&noredirect=1

Builds with debuginfo information can be found at
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/win32-debug/libreoffice-3-5/

If the steps are not clear, best is to ask on the libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org mailing list.

Uli:
could you install any specific font?
What Java version do you have?
Does the crash happen with a brand new document?

You can try the raw method too:
- uninstall LO
- clean Windows registry (with a free tool like ccleaner)
- rename your LO directory profile
- install a new LO version (3.5.X or better, 3.6.X version)
Comment 10 Julien Nabet 2013-01-05 15:06:55 UTC
No feedback since months, put it as WFM.

Uli: don't hesitate to reopen this tracker if you can still reproduce this with a newer LO version (last one is 3.6.4).
