NOT Reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.5.3.1 (RC1) German UI/Locale [Build-ID: 21cb047-d7e6025-9ba54fc-b4a51a8-f42372b] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) in CALC and WRITER.
NOT reproducible with LibO 3.4.4 on Ubuntu 64Bit (VirtualBox)

@reporter:
Please:
- add information
  -- concerning your PC (video card, ...)
  -- concerning your OS (Version, Distribution, Language)
  -- concerning your LibO version (with Build ID if it's not a public release)
     and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
  –- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
    (video hardware acceleration ...)
  -- WHY do you believe that your observation is unexpected (cite Help or
     Documentation!)

I wonder what test system you use, you never contribute information concerning your OS and nearby every report shows a different version:
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/report.cgi?x_axis_field=reporter_realname&y_axis_field=version&z_axis_field=op_sys&query_format=report-table&product=LibreOffice&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&keywords=&bug_id=&bug_id_type=anyexact&emailreporter1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=big_n%40gmx.de&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&emailtype3=substring&email3=&chfieldvalue=&chfieldfrom=-30d&chfieldto=Now&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=&format=table&action=wrap>

Do you really determinate the exact version where the bug appeared?
Comment 3 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:38:25 UTC
Yes, I do.

I have the experience that most LibO/OOo bugs are platform independent. So more informations is not needed in most cases.
Comment 4 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:39:49 UTC
The bugs that I report can be reproduced on my private PC running Ubuntu and my laptop at work running windows. So they are not OS or HW-specific.
Comment 5 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:42:19 UTC
> WHY do you believe that your observation is unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)

Because it is inconsistent and illogical!
Comment 6 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:46:49 UTC
This is a simple bug that fails to switch to black. There are to conditions if the text of this box hast to be black instead of grey.

a) A string is enteres -- ok
b) The pull-down is open -- not ok
Comment 7 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:47:28 UTC
to conditions -> two conditions
Comment 8 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 10:48:04 UTC
enteres -> entered

sorry for my typos
Comment 9 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-04-25 11:16:20 UTC
@OfficeUser:
Please ALWAYS contribute exact information concerning OS in the report or comment!

Do not waste our time with incomplete reports and snappish comments like "Because it is inconsistent and illogical". Although I tend to agree with your expectations to text color, we need facts. What other similar combo boxes did you see with black text? What can we know what Linux distribution with intended differing behavior you use?
Comment 10 OfficeUser 2012-04-25 11:30:38 UTC
Still present in:
LibreOffice 3.5.2.2
Build-ID: 281b639-6baa1d3-ef66a77-d866f25-f36d45f

OS = Ubuntu, other OS not tested

@Rainer:
I appreciate your efforts. Bot sometimes - I think - you make noise that is not in any targeted manner.

Have you looked carefully on your screen? It may be hard to recognize dark grey instead of black..

I will re-test with the next available non-pre build.
Comment 11 OfficeUser 2012-04-29 02:00:29 UTC
@Rainer:

Such search boxes have been first introduced by Firefox, I think. They also Display selcted search engines like "Google" and so on in gray while user enteres search strings are displayed black.

So this is common for modern GUIs. These are the "facts" you have requested.

Not reproducible in 3.5.3 on Fedora 64 bit
May be it is grey because so is desktop theme.
Comment 13 OfficeUser 2012-05-21 11:28:23 UTC
Still reproducible with:
LibreOffice 3.5.3.2
Build-ID: 235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80

@sasha:

Has nothing to do with themes.

**** Please note: ****

The list item appear grey if you open it while the grey string "Search" is displayed.

If you open it while a user entered string is present, the list items appear black.

The list items always have the colour of the string in the search box.

Maybe this is why some users are not able to reproduce it.
Comment 14 sasha.libreoffice 2012-05-22 03:15:15 UTC
Thanks for additional information.
reproduced in 3.5.3 on Fedora 64 bit and in 3.4.2 on Windows XP 32 bit
Steps to reproduce:
0. Start any module of office
1. Press Ctrl-F
2. enter qwer there and press Enter 2 times
3. enter asdf there and press Enter 2 times
4. press Del.
5. click by mouse inside of document (in Find tool appears grey word "Find")
6. click drop-down-triangle inside of Find tool (appears word qwer and asdf in drop down list)
Expected: words are black
Actually: words are grey

Changing version to 3.4.2 as most early reproducible
Comment 15 Robert Roth 2013-01-27 23:32:25 UTC
On Ubuntu 12.10 with Libreoffice 3.6.2.2 this bug can be reproduced, the entry in the find history dropdown is shown with the current text color from the find entry (if the search hint is shown, the dropdown entries are grey, if some text has been entered, the dropdown entries are black), however with the current master this does not happen anymore, the dropdown entries are shown with black even if the gray Find hint is shown in the search entry, thus I think this can be marked as fixed.
Comment 16 A (Andy) 2014-09-27 18:12:37 UTC
for me not reproducible with LO 4.3.2.2 (Win 8.1) as per comment 14

Does this issue still persist for you or anybody else with the latest release of LO? Otherwise, we could maybe close this issue.
Comment 17 OfficeUser 2014-10-06 18:58:53 UTC
Confirm fixed in...

Version: 4.3.2.2
