screenshot of a window with wrong message

Editing the security settings for macros is not correct.

After a default installation on a Mac with Mac OS X SnowLeopard a document with macros is opened. A window pops up (see screenshot) to inform the user about the place to change the security settings. The message in the window is wrong.

The settings are not found under Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Security as described but under Preferences -> LibreOffice -> Security -> Macro Security

[This is an automated message.]
This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

@Hans Hermann Meyer:
What's wrong with the message? What should be the correct text for Mac?

Mac specific Menu? Can you contribute information?

Yes, this is a Mac-specific menu issue.

Background: On MacOS X, in every application the 2nd menu in the global menu bar (right after the Apple menu and right before the File and the Edit menu) has the name of the application, therefore, in LibreOffice, it is called "LibreOffice". This menu contains special entries related to the application itself, not to a specific document; especially the "About <Application Name>" menu item, which shows the About box, the "Quit <Application Name>" menu item, which quits the application, and the "Preferences..." menu item which allows to see and edit the application's preferences.

To be compliant with this convention on MacSO X, the global settings of LibreOffice are not located under "Tools > Options" (as on Windows), but under "LibreOffice > Preferences ...". Therefore, one sentence of the message quoted by Hans Hermann Meyer is not correct for MacOS X. Instead of:

"Macros may contain viruses. Execution of macros is disabled due to the current macro setting in Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Security."

the message should read (on MacOS X only, of course):

"Macros may contain viruses. Execution of macros is disabled due to the current macro setting in LibreOffice - Preferences... - LibreOffice - Security."

*

Still REPRODUCIBLE with LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 (Build-ID: 235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80), German langpack installed, on MacOS X 10.6.8 German.

Confirmed, therefore changed Status to NEW.

@Rainer Bielefeld:
Should we change the 'Component' field, too? This is not a problem with the online help, as 'Documentation' suggests, but IMHO rather a 'UI' problem.

Where the LibreOffice application settings are located on MacOS X

My description in the previous comment may be a bit cumbersome, therefore I attached a screenshot which shows far easier where the global application settings are located in the MacOS X version.
Comment 6 Roman Eisele 2012-05-08 06:49:47 UTC
The summary was IMHO a bit misleading, therefore I try to improve it. If you find an even better summary it is welcome!

You are the expert and should decide, your arguments sound plausible. Can you please check for DUPs? I am pretty sure that I already saw something similar, but currently I can't find.

Changed the 'Component' field to 'UI'.

I have searched for a while, but I can only find similar issues (bug 39605, related to the same menu item; bug 31485, also Mac-specific) at the moment, not a DUP. I will keep my eyes open, of course ...

May be I remember a mailing list posting or similar ...

Very probably an easy hack ...

Seems like this one is fixed already. Thanks to a patch of Andras Timar http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=9bc097419568e61018b95148ad2a8181665051f9
