Agree, to switch the same tool again and again is very annoying if you want to draw some lines or rectangles. The tool should be kept until user manually changes it. libreoffice-3.3.2.2, ubuntu package 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu2~lucid1

Is this not well-known and common behaviour in OOo & other suites? I just tried again and if you double-click on 'line' the line tool stays active till you blind-click or press escape or click the arrow. Seems good enough to me, no changes made
