Description Harald Judt 2011-03-31 03:45:59 UTC
LibreOffice does not respect the GTK preference "gtk-scrolled-window-placement" which makes desktop experience inconsistent.

By default, a window's scrollbar is on the right side, but some users might prefer it to be on the left side and do so by setting gtk-scrolled-window-placement = top-right in their gtkrc.

An enhancement would be to provide an option to put scrollbars to the left side of the scrolled content instead of to the right side, and/or to respect gtk-scrolled-window-placement.

Some terminal emulators provide such an option, as do mozilla products (config preference layout.scrollbar.side).

Please have a look at Tools > Options > LO Writer > View. Section Ruler, option "Right-aligned".

Thank you. I did not see this option at first, because:

(LibreOffice Help):

These commands can only be accessed after you enable support for Asian languages in Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages.

Aligns the vertical ruler with the right border.

This indeed places the vertical ruler on the right side and the scrollbar on the left in Writer. What I meant, though, was a global setting that works in all LibreOffice applications and for all widgets. Of course, this could mean a lot of work for a not-so-important-but-nice-to-have feature.
