When i use "Data to fields", this action cannot be undone, that is: it is not possible to get back the fields' name. Ho to reproduce it: 1) Insert into a text document a field from a registered database 2) Select a row in the database and click "Data to fields" This is annoying. This action cannot be even undone with Ctrl+z or UNDO. That is: the action "Data to fields" is not in the history list. See it in action: http://mrjive.it/~mrjive/tmp/data-to-fields-bug.ogv

I can confirm this behaviour on Mac OSX SnowLeopard and LibO beta2. Strangely enough, only the insertion of data is not undoable. If I continue to backstep the changes to the document, it will skip the DatatoText operation and undo any other changes made to the document. Alex
This is a crazy old bug. Could someone test this against LO 4 and see if it is still valid? I'm not sure how to reproduce this.
I have just tried with LO 4.2.0.0.beta1+ following these steps: 1/ create a new empty text document 2/ type some text 3/ menu Insert > Fields > Other -> Database tab 4/ select Mail merge fields and choose the database you want, for example bibliography 5/ select a field in the database, for example Author in biblio table of bibliography 6/ validate (OK) 7/ open the database: press F4 key 8/ go to biblio table and select the record you want then click on the button "Data to Fields"; the author of this record appears in the text document. 9/ click in the text document and then click on the Undo button or hit ctrl+Z Current behavior: the field is removed as the last action in Writer was to insert the field. But: 10/ click on Redo button or press ctrl+Y --> the field is restored in empty state. For me it is not a too bad behavior. What do you think ? Best regards. JBF
According to comment #4 I close this bug as WorksForMe. Please, feel free to reopen if it does not work for you. Best regards. JBF
