Description Frédéric MASSOT 2024-03-28 15:46:17 UTC
Hi,

We have a rather specific bug on writer and calc which occurs randomly on a few workstations.

After a while of use, pressing an accented key (French) such as an "é", an "è" or an "à" produces another key. Sometimes it's the last ctrl typed, like a ctrl+c or ctrl+a, or sometimes it's the BackSpace key.

I have the impression that this bug appears after a document has been edited for a long time.

We tried to solve this problem in safe mode or by starting from an empty profile.

We use regularly updated Debian testing, we think that this bug appeared in September 2023 after the transition from version 7.4 to version 7.5.

For a few days, we found a solution, in Calc when we can no longer enter an accented character in a cell, we enter it in the top bar. In Writer, when you can no longer enter an accented character in a text, you enter it in the drop-down menu which allows you to select a font, then you delete it, then you can enter an accented character in the text again.

I don't know which way to look anymore. If you have any ideas ?

Regards.

Which env do you use: Gnome/gtk, Plasma/kde, other?
When you say "after a while", do you rather mean 10/15 minutes, 1 or 2 hours, other ?

Do you reproduce this on specific only or even with brand new files?

Do you use any specific tools related to accessibility? If yes, could you disable them for the test?

Thank you for your reply.

We use Mate/GTK.

Most of the time it's after half an hour. But, I have a colleague who often has the bug, she does a lot of editing, after the bug she closed LibreOffice, then reopened, the bug came back after a few minutes.

We don't have this bug with other software.

The bug may appear on a new document or on a reissued document.

We do not use an accessibility tool.

Regards.

Thank you Frédéric for your detailed feedback.

To know if it's gtk related, could you try:
- launch terminal/console
- SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen
- launch LO
- try to reproduce
?

The UI will be a bit different (eg: the File save dialog) but you shouldn't be lost.
