Description Dave Pickens 2024-02-04 03:28:07 UTC
Description:
Writer version 7.6.4.1 will not open a valid .doc file create by Microsoft Word 2003.

Writer version 7.5.1.2 opens the file with no problem. This fails on all Word 2003 files, even if they are a simple one line text without special fonts or graphics. This is apparently a new bug introduced in LibreOffice 7.6.

Message follows:

The file 'check.signature.doc' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. LibreOffice can try to repair the file.

The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural document damage due to data transmission.

Steps to Reproduce:
Attempt to open any .doc file created by Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Actual Results:
The file 'xyz.doc' is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. LibreOffice can try to repair the file.

The corruption could be the result of document manipulation or of structural document damage due to data transmission.

We recommend that you do not trust the content of the repaired document.
Execution of macros is disabled for this document.

Should LibreOffice repair the file?

Expected Results:
The .doc file should open

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Dave Pickens 2024-02-04 03:40:16 UTC
This was later determined to be a bug in LibreOffice version 24.2.0 not 7.6.4.1

Version 7.6.4.1 opens the files properly.

Please attach a sample file, reduce the size as much as possible without private information, and paste the information in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice, there is a copy icon.
