Description Ian Eales 2023-12-11 17:43:44 UTC
Description:
Previous to 7.5.9 there were about three times as many files in the view of recent files. The current 10 is useless to people who work on forty or fifty files per week.

I could not find any way to change the count.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Libreoffice loads at startup
2. Only ten recent files displayed
3.

Actual Results:
Only ten files displayed

Expected Results:
Same as prior to 7.5.9, about thirty files visible in the window

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Don't make UI changes that are not configurable!!

[Version list should have most recent at top]

Thank you for the report.
Do you mean in the Start Center, where thumbnails of the documents are shown?
I can't reproduce on Linux: I can see 12 recent documents.

Version: 7.5.9.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: cdeefe45c17511d326101eed8008ac4092f278a9
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
Comment 2 Ian Eales 2023-12-12 05:14:53 UTC
I used to see 20+ on Windows on the previous release 7.5.7

Now I see 10 for the same sized window on 7.5.9.

sure I can scroll for the other 11 but that's not a feature

additionally each 'thumbnail' is a different size 'icon'

At the very least, we should be able to choose view style and size

AND clicking already selected "Recent Documents" changes to "Templates" <<< Not standard pick list behavior.

Please post your Help -> About LibreOffice version information.

Also, what is physical display resolution? And what Windows Display value--either at an standard Scale set, or is there an 'Advanced scaling settings' set applying a custom scaling?
Comment 4 Ian Eales 2023-12-12 18:48:06 UTC
Resolution is 1920*1080, the same as my laptop. I was wrong about 7.5.7 having the smaller, all same size icons. I had downloaded, but not installed 7.5.7 to my desktop

My laptop has 7.4.7 installed. I can see 25 almost-same-sized documents in the window

25 >> 14 and is much preferred. The current implementation maybe useful on a phone... but not a desktop!
Comment 5 V Stuart Foote 2023-12-12 21:14:26 UTC
OK thanks, and what UI scaling is your Windows desktop using?

Something higher than 100%?

Display Settings -> "Change the size of text, apps and other items"; or are you using a a custom scale factor from the Windows "Advanced scaling settings" dialog?

Additionally, to rule out an LO configuration issue, please change over to Safe mode or clear your user profile completely [1] and retest.

Comment 6 Ian Eales 2023-12-12 21:32:52 UTC
Scaling 100%

Nothing has changed except 7.4.7 to 7.5.9

Restart LO in Safe Mode does not enable the recent files.

Restarting w10 Safe MOde will have to wait. [It's never fixed anything in an LO update]

Nor was it needed here, just the LibreOffice in SafeMode to force a clean user profile.
Comment 9 Ian Eales 2023-12-13 15:08:03 UTC
I did LO Safe Mode first before Windows Safe Mode.

There are no files shown in LO SafeMode.

Silly LO Start File Icon
Comment 11 Ian Eales 2023-12-13 15:19:12 UTC
If I resize the LO Start screen just so I can get 18, but it takes up far more screen than before.

I fail to see the point of the variable sized 'icons', some ODS of which are nearly blank.

Were I coding the thumbnail, I capture the current area, not the 0,0 location
Comment 12 Ian Eales 2023-12-13 15:26:10 UTC
And as a suggestion, all Shift select to select more than one file.

One file from the start and everything else from the recent files is chaotic. Doubly so now since we have such pretty pictures.

AND I've never understood why the LO Start went away on opening a file. IMO, it should always be available.

If we're going to use icons, let's use them and not have to pick from a list we have to read.

That enhancement request has been open as bug 77590 for some time. Have a read of that...

I do see a lot of files (25 in my case) in Linux version:
