Description Joshua Zev Levin, Ph.D. 2023-12-11 17:32:09 UTC
Description:
I made changes to a spreadsheet and saved it. When I check its progress on OneDrive, I get a notification that there is a problem. When I click the notification, I get:

The file is in use.
The file is open by another program and can't be synced. Once the file is closed, we can sync it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make changes to a spreadsheet and save it, but don't close it.
2. Click the OneDrive icon on the Notification Bar. Click on the yellow notification.
3. See the diagnostic, as above.
4. Close the file. The problem does not clear right away.
5. Wait for about an eternity and a half. Maybe two eternities. Have lunch.
6. Give up waiting and save the file to your thumb drive, just in case it won't sync.

Actual Results:
I think you have to close LibreOffice entirely to make OneDrive sync properly.

Expected Results:
I don't know -- I'm still waiting.

Reproducible: Always

File saves as .xls

I had two .xls files open. When I closed both, the problem resolved itself and OneDrive synced properly.

This is still a problem.

To make sure .xls file is synced on OneDrive, I have to close it, and then either wait for the OneDrive cloud symbol in the Notifications Bar to return to "normal", or use Windows Explorer to see if the files(s) had synced.

There is no need to completely close LibreOffice, only the files that have trouble syncing. It is still a nuissance.

My computer was originally meant to be my travel computer, and has only 4GB of RAM and 64 GB (57.1 GB usable) of SSD.

I think I need a bigger computer. Could you check out how this works on a wimpy computer like mine?

Thank you.

Thanks for the report.
Please do the following:
- update to the latest release: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/
- check that OneDrive / Windows are up to date too
- check that it happens with other file formats too
- is this issue specific to LibreOffice? What if you edit a file with another program, save it but keep it open?
- check that it isn't an issue related to leftover lock files (show hidden files in the file browser, remove any associated lockfiles)

Responding to S. Guillou's Comment 3 on 2023-12-29:

I downloaded the file at the given link and executed it, but apparently it noticed that my installed version was already 7.6.4.1, it did nothing.

I tried deleting the lock file, but that did not make any difference.

I have tried this with L-O Calc for .xls files, and L-O Write for .doc and .docx files. Still the same problem.

I don't have any other programs to open and edit these files.

I always keep Windows up-to-date, and I presume that OneDrive is updated (when necessary) when Windows is.

The thought occurred to me that it would be worthwhile checking out how Microsoft Office handles this kind of event. Do they have the same problem?
