Description Unundev 2023-11-18 17:07:21 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice freezes or hangs when I try to access the options (I think they're called that in English, but for the sake of searchability I'll mention Settings and Preferences too).
Other dialogs are work fine.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open any LO Application
2. Click Tools->Options or hit Alt+12

Actual Results:
LibreOffice is unresponsive and after a while my OS opens a dialog that tells me that it has detected that as well, giving me the option to wait or force quit the program.
Even after 5 minutes it doesn't go back to normal.

Expected Results:
It should open the options/settings/preferences dialog.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
OS: Fedora 38
Kernel: 6.2.14-200

Please can you paste the information in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice, there is an icon to copy.
Comment 2 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2023-11-20 08:03:43 UTC
Could not reproduce in:

Version: 7.5.8.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: f718d63693263970429a68f568db6046aaa9df01
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

(and in any case, please also test version 7.6, as 7.5 should not see further releases)

There is bug 146852 when GnuPG is used, but reported for Windows.

Version: 7.5.7.1 (X86_64)
Build ID: 50(Build:1)
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.2; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
Calc: threaded

Another odd thing that happened after I tried reinstalling that one... the UI has regressed to a Windows 98 looking grey style. Not really a big issue, because it works very well, but still strange.

So I uninstalled 7.5 which was provided by Fedora and installed

Version: 7.6.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 29d686fea9f6705b262d369fede658f824154cc0
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.2; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

from the LibreOffice website rpms, which has normal UI again, but still freezes on opening the options dialog.

For the sake of it, I tested with both de_DE local and de_DE language, and the same combination of both as you:

Version: 7.6.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 29d686fea9f6705b262d369fede658f824154cc0
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Still could not reproduce.

From what you said, I assume that using the gen VCL plugin (the grey interface you saw) does not crash when opening the Options dialog. You can test that from the command line:

SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice7.6

Is that right?

Please test Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

No, it still crashes with the grey interface.(In reply to m_a_riosv from comment #6)

Still crashes in Safe Mode, too.

I have to add that in the meantime my LibreOffice (provided by Fedora repos) got updated to 7.5.8.2.
I'm still on kernel version 6.2.14-200, because I fear breaking my multi boot setup by fiddling around, since Fedora handles grub differently and I don't have the time to figure it out properly.
I also downloaded the Flatpak version (which is 7.6.5.2 now).
For some reason the freeze happens in all of these instances.

I was unable to reproduce this same behavior in

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: a2265e8faa099d9652efd12392c2877c2df1d1eb
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

or

Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
