a.odt and b.dodt

Let's suppose we have a file (a.odt) and we want to add file a.odt as an attachment to file b.odt. That is, no matter what is in file b.odt, file a.odt would be added as a snapshot (that could be updated whenever we update it).

Today, we can add file a.odt as a section in file b.odt. However, when added, file a.odt updates the structures of file b.odt. For example, the indexes and numbered titles are updated. That is a feature that I particularly use a lot and like. But, I would like to request a feature that we could check a box and say we do not want to update the numbered titles of file a.odt when it is added to file b.odt and that the structures of the numbered titles would be kept the same no matter what is in file a.odt.

For example, if we have title 2. in file b.odt, when we add section a.odt it will have title 3.

An example is giving attached.

I can't reproduce in a recent trunk build:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e3c961e6a3917d95534652e0f982918cc1079015
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Nor in 7.6:

Version: 7.6.2.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 56f7684011345957bbf33a7ee678afaf4d2ba333
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Regardless of if I update the link or not, or insert a new section (File, Link), I never get an increment in the numbering.

Can you please test again in a recent version of LO (7.5.7+ or 7.6.2+), and report back, pasting here the full version info from Help > About LibreOffice?
Please also tell us the exact steps/settings you used to add the sections.

I have just updated LO and got the same behavior (using the files attached in the initial comment).

Can you please provide steps to create file b.odt from scratch? I can't get that numbering increment by inserting sections. I also tried with LO 7.5.7.1.

I just downloaded again files a.odt and b.odt and saw that numbering increment was not happening (that could be an expected behavior in some cases). I think that might be because the numbering styles might have changed with LO update for file a.odt and file b.odt, which might have caused the numbering not to be followed given the sections (I am attaching these files again). The steps are as follows:

- Create a section and link it to file a.odt
- Create a numbering list
- Create another section and link it to file a.odt
