Description: The situation for LibreOffice on Android is confusing. So while Collabora Office was around for a while it no longer receives updates and the effort now seems to be to push LibreOffice Viewer (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.documentfoundation.libreoffice/) which is or derives from https://github.com/CollaboraOnline/online. While apparently LibreOffice Viewer was started as viewer only there is now experimental editing functionality. Unsure what the longterm plan is here, but if this is going to be the go-to solution for android for viewing AND editing, this should be renamed. Steps to Reproduce: Look at F-Droid app listing https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.documentfoundation.libreoffice/ Actual Results: Current name: LibreOffice Viewer Expected Results: Some other name, that does not indicated limited functionality and rule out editing. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Android 13.1 LibreOffice Viewer 7.6.0.0.alpha1+ Build ID: 5c4c768e128d

No, LibreOffice Viewer is not based on Collabora online/LibreOffice online, but a different/separate app which is located inside of the "core" git repository: https://git.libreoffice.org/core/+/refs/heads/master/android/ The Collabora Office app is located in its own repository, as your link shows. While they're both based on LibreOffice, they're technologically quite different and basically independent of each other. From what I know, Collabora Office is still developed and the app is provided either via Google Play or a third-party F-Droid repository. More details on their website: https://www.collaboraoffice.com/collabora-office-android-ios/ What's true is that the effort to bring the app into the official F-Droid repo seems stuck when looking at the corresponding issue in the F-Droid issue tracker: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/rfp/-/issues/1399 > While apparently LibreOffice Viewer was started as viewer only there is now > experimental editing functionality. > > Unsure what the longterm plan is here, but if this is going to be the go-to > solution for android for viewing AND editing, this should be renamed. From what I can tell, there's currently not really a long-term plan. I'm personally mostly focusing on keeping the app up to date with other LibreOffice changes, don't really have time for working on improving the editing functionality and am not aware of anybody else currently working on that either, so it seems likely that the editing functionality is going to remain experimental for now. Do you still think the app should be renamed at this point in time?
As I pointed in other bugs, Collabora for Android still has 21.11 as stable, but 23.05 has snaphsots at https://www.collaboraoffice.com/downloads/Collabora-Office-Android-Snapshot/ and will soon be released. That is not the topic of this issue, but good to know.
Phew not a great situation. Thanks for taking the time to respond so thoroughly, much appreciated. Since no work to improve the editor is on the horizon lets close as wontfix. If circumstances change and more development time is allocated in direction of this product, renaming could then be re-assessed.

Sounds good. In case you use the editing functionality and run into any bugs or have specific suggestions for improvement, please don't hesitate to report then.
