Description: LibreOffice writer suddenly froze while I was typing. I could not type or click any buttons on the application including the close button. I opened task manager to forcefully close the application and saw that LibreOffice Writer was using over 7 GB of RAM. I tried to end the task using Task Manager. The program did not close immediately; the memory usage slowly dropped until it reached around 153 MB, then my entire computer froze, after which I performed a hard reboot. I'm not sure what the cause of the memory leak is. However, this was the first time I opened this document since downloading it the cloud using Microsoft OneDrive. I noticed that every image I had cropped before uploading the document was cropped incorrectly after downloading it on this different computer. I attempted to fix the cropping for a bit, but gave up and undid the changes. I noticed the high memory usage a few minutes after trying to fix the image cropping. I was also running a DOS BOX emulator through an internet browser at the time. Actual Results: N/A Expected Results: N/A Reproducible: Didn't try User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: [Information automatically included from LibreOffice] Locale: en-US Module: TextDocument OS: Windows 10 OS is 64bit: yes
Are you able to share the file that caused this memory leak, or did it include private info?
Created attachment 185737 [details] LibreOffice Writer file in which the bug has been observed
I will upload the file which caused the bug. I just experienced the bug for a second time after opening the file and typing into it intermittently. I did not adjust any of the incorrectly cropped images this time, but still experienced the bug. I also did not have my browser open this time, so the DOS BOX emulator was not running either.
Correction: I did have my browser (Mozilla Firefox) open, but I was just reading a Wikipedia article.
I tested with your file. I opened it, wrote several paragraphs and let it be for 45 minutes. The memory use got lower during that time. Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 002f941ec20e594e9702c39fab9cf9f4cc392dab CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22621; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_FI); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
Hi there, thank you for reporting the bug. I can not reproduce the bug in: Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 6a064b1967e06e40be40817deff99d00c1a8554f CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win Locale: ko-KR (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded I wrote many paragraphs to test, and even copy pasted a line constantly to observe any memory leakage and with your attached file, I never got anywhere near using 7 GB of RAM. It never slowed down for me or did I observe any freezing of the application.
I wasn't able to reproduce the same behavior in Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded or Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: a2265e8faa099d9652efd12392c2877c2df1d1eb CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Although it is worth nothing that the first version definitely used much more memory than the second.
KennKun: have you experienced this with version 24.2?
