Created attachment 182901 [details] the writer application that doesn't have save, open etc... the menu buttons save open undo redo are gone. while hovering over the menu, they appear again
How did you install LO 7.4.1? From your Linux distrib repo? Other? Could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps ?
