Description inoukdemers 2022-07-31 17:56:11 UTC
Description:
Hello,
Just letting you know about a minor bug in the Navigator display.
This occurs specifically in the Navigator that opens with F5.
It occurs whether the Navigator window is docked or floating.
It occurs whether OpenGL is enabled or not.
It does not occur when one accesses Navigator via the Sidebar.

In Navigator, any headings that contain sub-headings have the first letter of their text partially obstructed by the +/- boxes used to expand the list.

I have noticed this problem in versions prior to 7.3.4.2, but cannot recall when it started.

Image attached.
Thank you!

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a blank document.
2.Add some lines formatted as Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3.
3.Open Navigator (F5).

Actual Results:
The text headings are partially obstructed by the +/- buttons.

Expected Results:

Reproducible: Always

I can't reproduce it either
Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community

But well Windows 8.1. Tried a few options: large/small icons and Windows scaling.

Not sure if this could be a cause, but I do often project the screen onto an external TV via HDMI.
It's an LG TV, 720p, 1366 x 768 px. So the aspect ratio is about 1.77864.
My laptop has a screen resolution of 3840 x 2160, aspect ratio 1.77777.

Perhaps switching from one to the other ends up messing with the settings in Writer?

So it only happens with external monitor / TV?

Hello all and apologies for the delay.

1. Here is the version information:

Version: 7.3.7.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e114eadc50a9ff8d8c8a0567d6da8f454beeb84f
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

2. This does not only happen with external monitor. It happens on the laptop's monitor.

3. Some recent observations: when I launch Writer and open a document, hitting F5 before doing anything else correctly displays the headings in Navigator; the headings are not obstructed by the plus signs.

Scrolling down with mousewheel also doesn't affect Navigator at this point.

However as soon as the cursor is placed elsewhere in the document via mouseclick (or via Page Down), Navigator's headings get offset.

Hello again,

Here are some further quirks I discovered that seem to get closer to the problem.
See the attached photos.

I created a document with headings on the laptop, then projected it onto the external monitor via HDMI.

As I mentioned, the external monitor is an LG TV, 720p, 1366 x 768 px. My laptop monitor has a screen resolution of 3840 x 2160, aspect ratio 1.77777.

Headings in Navigator are in their proper place.

I then disconnect the external monitor. On the laptop monitor, Navigator headings look normal, *however* the graphics resolution is noticeably reduced.

It's clear something is up, since the screen grab I took while on the external monitor is noticeably smaller pixel-wise than the one I took while on the laptop monitor.

I then close and restart Writer. Immediately the headings in Navigator are off. This time the screen grab has a higher pixel count.

My hypothesis is that somehow the Writer document stores the resolution settings when it closes, and since those settings were the external monitor's, they end up wrong when Writer restarts and uses the laptop's settings.

Hope this helps.

Could you retest with actual version 7.5? Is bug still present there?

Hello,

I retested with the version below, and the problem persists, even when not plugged in to an external monitor.

Strangely, initially Navigator display was correct, but when I opened another document that started producing the problem, thereafter all documents opened had the same issue. There seems to be some sort of delay before the problem appears.

I will see if Version 7.5 does the same thing.
