Description nouvo09 2022-05-13 12:21:34 UTC
As it is for french localization, I'll write it in french:

Concerne: Writer
Nouveau document
Etiquette / Format

Il y a une incohérence dans le libellé des champs

Il est indiqué "écart horizontal" alors que le champ correspond à la largeur de l étiquette
"écart verticalé alors qu'il s'agit de la hauteur de l 'étiquette"

"largeur" alors qu'il s'agit de l'espace horizontal" séparant deux étiquettes
"hauteur" alors qu'il s'agit de l'espace vertical" séparant deux étiquettes

C'est incompréhensible et très difficile à l'usage

nouvo09: at least https://help.libreoffice.org/7.4/fr/text/shared/01/01010202.html?System=UNIX&DbPAR=WRITER&HID=modules/swriter/ui/labelformatpage/LabelFormatPage#bm_id3147588 seems to correspond to what is indicated in the dialog.

Sophie/Jean-Baptiste:
items are in sw/messages.po:
  17957 #. ZNbvM
  17958 #: sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/labelformatpage.ui:36
  17959 msgctxt "labelformatpage|label1"
  17960 msgid "Hori_zontal pitch:"
  17961 msgstr "Écart _horizontal :"
  17962
  17963 #. SFCGD
  17964 #: sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/labelformatpage.ui:50
  17965 msgctxt "labelformatpage|label2"
  17966 msgid "_Vertical pitch:"
  17967 msgstr "Écart _vertical :"
  17968
  17969 #. fpXAC
  17970 #: sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/labelformatpage.ui:64
  17971 msgctxt "labelformatpage|label3"
  17972 msgid "_Width:"
  17973 msgstr "_Largeur :"
  17974
  17975 #. 2ZXTL
  17976 #: sw/uiconfig/swriter/ui/labelformatpage.ui:78
  17977 msgctxt "labelformatpage|label4"
  17978 msgid "_Height:"
  17979 msgstr "_Hauteur :"

"pitch" seems generally translated by "écart" and "width" + "height" translations are ok so either English words are wrong or there's something else I missed.
Any thoughts here?

Bonjour
Le mot "écart" est plus précisément l'espace entre deux items ou groupes.

Le mot approprié serait ici probablement "pas", c'est à dire l'espace entre deux répétitions à l'identique de deux items ou groupes d'items

J'ai joint un petit croquis plus explicite et qui permettrait d'éviter erreurs et tâtonnements.

For me the labels in the dialog, both in the fields part and in the graphic part, and in the help, are consistent. So looking at the graphic or reading the help, shows what is the meaning of "écart" in this dialog.

I am not sure if "pas" instead of "écart" would be more easily understandable in this dialog.

Best regards. JBF

Agreed with you, I think "écart" is more understandable as a distance between two items than "pas" and it's well described in the help.

So

agree to disagree.

Looking at MS Office, they have "Pas" for this setting, at least according to this screenshot: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/5EwkYB5XdXg/maxresdefault.jpg
