Description LI AR 2020-05-27 12:45:28 UTC
Description:
I wanted to change a single page to landscape mode in a Writer document. I found some old libreoffice docs on the web that partially helped me solve the problem, but when I looked at new docs:
https://help.libreoffice.org/6.4/en-US/text/swriter/guide/pagestyles.html
I found several "bugs":

- "To Apply a Page Style" guidance is wrong. Even if you select page xxx (>1) and ask to apply the landscape page style, that's the first page of the document that gets the modification. Old LOo docs was mentioning this was related to some notion of "scope" but did not provide any solution nor explanation. The only solution is to create a new page with wanted Page Style. FYI, "old doc" is:
https://help.libreoffice.org/3.4/Writer/Changing_Page_Orientation_Landscape_or_Portrait

- "To Apply a Page Style to a New Page" is also wrong: "Insert - Manual Break" doesn't exist in LOo 6.4. It's in "Insert - More Breaks - Manual Break".

Steps to Reproduce:
BUG1:
1. Create a Writer doc with 4 pages
2. Create a new style
3. Change page to landscape and "Next Style" to default style
4. Select page 4, apply new Style

BUG2: simply navigate to Insert Menu, there is only "Insert - More Breaks - Manual Break", no direct "Insert - Manual Break".

Actual Results:
RESULT: page 1 is landscape

Expected Results:
EXPECTED: page 4 is landscape

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

But the "old doc" is also in the new system: https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/swriter/guide/pageorientation.html

It does provide solutions for scoping, with breaks ("One Page Long Styles", "Manually Defined Range of a Page style").

Regarding the insert menu item, yes, unfortunately there are many outdated menu references, because massive changes were made to the menus without any regard for help updates. However, updating the help often takes at least ten times the effort of updating the menu item position in the software itself.

Let's keep this for the menu stuff.

I think this patch: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/help/+/103789
achieves updating of the Insert menu help.

Seth Chaiklin committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":

https://git.libreoffice.org/help/commit/35a6c7266167e64c351dce14ec189a9ca53ad4dc

tdf#133438 update menu commands in Page style guide

It was also in the help page: https://help.libreoffice.org/6.4/en-US/text/swriter/guide/pagestyles.html, but it was at the top and hard to see. It is now moved down to the "Related topics".

Fixed in the patch in comment 3. But it will probably take a few days before the new help pages are updated.

I believe all the issues raised here have been addressed (and a few more), so will close this bug as "Fixed", but LI AR, you are welcome to check (in a few days) at: https://help.libreoffice.org/7.1/en-US/text/swriter/guide/pagestyles.html

If there are still problems, then change Status to "Reopened", and explain what is wrong. And if you believe the bugs were resolved, then change the Status to "Verified"
