I have the following lines with format "Time (MM:SS)":
8:29
8:22
7:16
32:41
3:40
12:52
1:51
1:02
1:00
1

I sort the column with them by assending or descending, above is the output after sorting by descending. 

LiO Calc sorts by the first number in MM, not the whole number of minutes. Reproduced in both LO 5.2.4 and 5.3

You don't sort times or other numeric values but text.
And text is here correctly sorted in *alphabetical* order.
