Menubar Help/LibreOffice Help: opened a browser to:
https://help.libreoffice.org/index.php?title=4.3/Common/Help&Language=en-US&System=UNIX&Version=4.3#bm_id3149178

pressing "LibreOffice help" under contents took me to a topic with no links except for the "lifering.jpg"

Where's the help (beef)?

I disagree, the linked page has no help for using LibreOffice Writer.
A better link would be https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Welcome_to_the_Writer_Help, discovered with a google search.
