Description Steve Nordstrom 2016-12-20 05:31:40 UTC
Description:
When using column filter, after editing selected rows, the header row disappears and the filter cannot be turned off.
I lost 900 rows of data while trying to delete 50 rows of old data.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open spreadsheet
2.open column filter on columns A to M
3.select data in column C to edit
4 delete data from some rows using Shift+down arrow and Delete
5 after deleting 25 rows or so, the header row with the filter controls in it disappears.
6 there is no way to return to the full spreadsheet.

Actual Results:
Deleting previous steps does not return the full spreadsheet.
All data is lost.
Closing the spreadsheet and re-opening recovers the full spreadsheet.

Expected Results:
select items to filter, perform edits, select All to recover full spreadsheet.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No
Single user machine

Additional Info:
This is a mac mini with 8GB of RAM
This application never has less than 2 GB of RAM
The last two revisions of Libre Office have displayed jerky cursor performance, slow response, they NEVER quit during a shut down/restart - must be forced to quit.

Seems the root cause is the problem described in your bug 104802.
Just a note for testers..
Comment 2 Alex Thurgood 2016-12-21 09:29:56 UTC
Please provide a test file and step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce, otherwise we are just clutching at straws. Too many variables to test at present.

File size ?
Refresh/re-calc auto activated ?
Special calculations in cells ?
OpenCL activated ?
..and the list goes on.

Without a test file, we have no way of knowing whether this is a more general problem, or a problem specific to your machine and your file.

Spreadsheet with AutoFilter problem

Steps to reproduce are in the other comment box.
Comment 4 Steve Nordstrom 2016-12-21 16:00:33 UTC
Hi Alex,
attached is a file that exhibited the filter problem.
Steps (try #2)....
While building this spreadsheet, I moved the cell cursor to C6. (at this point this spreadsheet was from Row 1 to 1023 and Column A to U)
I selected View>Freeze Cells>Freeze Rows and Columns.
I then selected cells A5 through N5 (or thereabouts), and opened Data>AutoFilter and selected Yes to the pop-up box question about using the top row as the header row.
I selected the filter icon in C5 and selected one of the amounts that were displayed in the drop-down menu.
I began deleting some of the entries in the resulting cells while leaving some entries that I wanted to keep.
After deleting about 20 entries in Column C, row 5 disappeared.
At this point there was no way to escape AutoFilter.
Selecting Edit>Undo a few times restored the entries I had deleted but did not restore Row 5.
Saving and closing and reopening did not restore full spreadsheet.
Closing the application and restarting it and opening the spreadsheet did restore the full spreadsheet with the AutoFilter row.
Repeating the AutoFilter/deletes actions produced the same result of Row 5 disappearing after several delete actions.
Good luck.

I am not having any success finding my User Profile - still working on it.

@Steve : thanks, I'll give it a spin and see if I encounter the same problems
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2016-12-23 09:17:04 UTC
Used test file with

Version: 5.2.3.3
Build ID: d54a8868f08a7b39642414cf2c8ef2f228f780cf
Threads CPU : 2; Version de l'OS :Mac OS X 10.12.2; UI Render : par défaut;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group

1) moved the cell cursor to C6

2) selected View>Freeze Cells>Freeze Rows and Columns (note that in the test file provided, this was already selected, so I de-selected it first then re-selected it)

3) selected cells A5 through N5 (or thereabouts), and opened Data>AutoFilter

I didn't get asked if I wanted to use top row as headers, this was done automatically.

4) selected the filter icon in C5 and selected 10 as the filter amount

5) deleted 25 non-conseutive rows of values

6) row 5 remained visible all the time

No repro

@Steve: have you reset your user profile as requested in bug 104802?

If the problem persists, could you please double check if the steps Alex took in comment 6 are correct or if other steps are required to trigger the problem? If so, please provide them.

Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.

After providing the requested info, please reset this bug to UNCONFIRMED (should it be persisting) or WORKSFORME (should it be solved with a newer LO version).
Comment 8 Steve Nordstrom 2017-01-10 17:42:26 UTC
I have had no success finding my "user profile" or resetting it per the instructions in 104802.
See my comment to that bug report for details.

I am ready to give up on both of these bugs and stop wasting your time.
Comment 9 steve 2017-01-16 07:31:04 UTC
@Steve, no need to give up just yet. The wiki has been revamped since and it should be much easier to follow the steps and find your user profile if needed:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resolving_corruption

Let us know if you where able to reset your user profile and see if that changes anything.
Comment 10 Steve Nordstrom 2017-03-03 00:51:17 UTC
Per your suggestion I have installed LO 5.3.0.
It fixed nothing.
Although the problem in this bug has never repeated since the first instance.
So I am going to close this for you to get it off your list.
Thanks for your interest.

Just to clarify, with 5.3, did you then try: Help - Restart in safe mode and then Continue in safe mode without doing anything else?

Per comment 10 unreproducible
