Description Dmitry Yakimov 2016-11-27 15:58:34 UTC
How to reproduce:

1. Create new document
2. Press Ctrl+F2, go to Variables tab
3. Lets create a variable, enter TestVar in Name field and TestVal in Value, press Insert and press Close.

We see that variable filed is empty. If double click the field and change value of variable it does not update its content.

If we set Text format it works.

Is this even a bug? Maybe you could ask on http://ask.libreoffice.org/ because I don't know enough about variables.
Comment 2 Dmitry Yakimov 2016-12-04 20:17:26 UTC
I do not understand why we need a "format" field for variable at all, but assume that "general" format type should work with all types of variables (text, number and so on).
Comment 3 Dmitry Yakimov 2016-12-04 20:18:04 UTC
And probably we need to remove Format field from "set variable".
Comment 4 Dieter 2017-05-22 13:35:29 UTC
I think it's not a bug, but the variable-dialog is quite unclear. Please try as follows:

1. Create new document
2. Press Ctrl+F2, go to Variables tab
3. Lets create a variable
3a.enter TestVar in Name field
3b.enter TestVal in Value
3c.CHOOSE TEXT in FORMAT

press Insert and press Close.

Now you have the text in the variable. So I think Format = Standard requires numbers, but that's not clear.

Could you solve the problem? => set to NEEDINFO
