Document used to demostrate the bug

Certain Writer tables with merged cells cannot be formatted, even when the geometry in question is relatively simple

Steps to reproduce
1. Create a 3x3 table in a Writer document
2. Merge cells A2:A3 and C2:C3
3. Select all within the table

Results
1. Almost all text and table formatting options are greyed out
2. The text formatting options which are not greyed out (e.g. text colour, text highlight) have no effect on the selected text (cells) when invoked
Comment 1 Matthew Francis 2014-07-28 02:03:47 UTC
Note: Due to bug 72486, if the table is the very first thing in the document, selecting all will select-all the document rather than the table. To work around this when reproducing the bug, make sure the document starts with a blank paragraph before the table
Comment 2 Matthew Francis 2014-07-30 14:15:16 UTC
Still occurs in 4.3.0.4 release, with the slight consistency improvement(?) that "text colour" and "text highlight" are now just as disabled as all the other formatting options
Comment 3 A (Andy) 2014-07-30 20:18:55 UTC
reproducible with LO 4.3.0.4 (Win 8.1)

As reported by Matthew: Two issues are important to reproduce this bug:

1. You need to insert a line before the new table. If you open a new document and insert the table in the first line then it is not reproducible.

2. You have to select all cells by clicking CTRL + A. If you try to select the cells with your PC mouse you will not be able to select all cells (another bug) and then it is also not reproducible.

Repro 7.5+ like this: Ctrl+A selects only columns A,B and they can be formatted.
Column C can be selected separately.
Selecting with Ctrl+A from column C again selects just columns A,B.
I set Minor.
