Chapter related Tables of Contents not updated from slave documents will not be updated immediately when the master document will be opened. All TOCs show the page numbering from the slave documents, although I answered "Update all links?" with yes. Even after update and save/close, when I will open the document the next time, Numbering again will be wrong.

Same with OOo 3.4-dev and 3.1.1

You can reproduce that with Attachment for
Bug 34093 - Partial PDFEXPORT of particular Master Documents breaks hyperlinks
Comment 2 Jacqueline Rahemipour 2011-06-18 14:06:14 UTC
I think, it is intended, that the TOCs are not updated automatically when opening the document and updating the links.

For what I see is the bug, that if the TOCs are updated manually, this will not be saved. The TOCs show after closing and reopening the wrong pagenumbers again.

May be we need an extended option in "Do you want to update" dialog with "also TOC?" or similar?

@Jacqueline:
I can understand your concerns for normal documents and TOC without auto-update (I can't fint this preference ...), but Paragraph TOCs in slave documents with wrong page numbers in a Master document are completely useless ... I will try to find an OOo Spec.

Personally, I think this is a WONTFIX. I work a lot with master documents and I never needed such a behavior. Quite the contrary, the auto-update mechanism in MSO Word is horrible because it destroys every manual changes and other fine adjustments in TOCs of sub-documents and master documents when opening the file.

An extra option (suggested in comment 3) in the dialog window when opening a master document would be ideal and a compromise, but is it really necessary?

I change the title to indicate this can only be an option.
And change to Enhancement. So we don't get QA messages.
