Description Thomas Lendo 2017-11-06 13:15:43 UTC
Users can add a keyboard shortcut to the Special Characters dialog (named "Symbol" in the Customize dialog). If added, the shortcut isn't shown in the "More Characters..." button of the new Insert Special Characters widget.

It would be helpful to have this shortcut shown next to the "More Characters..." button as it is shown for example in the "Insert Field" drop-down button next to the "More Fields..." entry ("More Fields... Strg+F2"). It's common practice to show keyboard shortcuts next to the entry in menus, and the widget button is more or less a kind of sub-menu.

Yes, the shortcut is shown in the menu but not at the toolbar button. That's a bug.

Shortcuts are only shown in tooltips over toolbar controls and not over more options button in a group button. "Symbol" is the non-group button and "Charmap" is the group button in the customization dialog.

The insert field split button is an expandable menu, so there shortcuts can appear next to item labels.

Why not show tooltips over the more options button in a group button too if there is someone?

Again, why not show shortcuts too? (That's a general question beside the technical issues.) For the user it doesn't matter what kind of button or control it is.

What would be put in such a tooltip when the more options button already has a label? If your answer is the shortcut, then this would be invalid as the button doesnt have a shortcut, but the main group button would.

I'll leave it to someone more technical to explain why not. @Maxim, @Stuart: Got an opinion.
