I reproduce the bug in 7.4+. Problem is that GIFs are grouped.
"No longer" indicates it worked with some older Lo. Which one? I don't confirm that. So I mark "Inherited".

You're right, I had previously used animated GIFs in a presentation but they weren't grouped. Nevertheless, grouping GIFs shouldn't result in them not being displayed as animated.
