Description mrmister001 2013-12-17 12:36:11 UTC
Problem description:
In Access is very well know you have an expressions builder, and you can create calculated fields without having to use queries or reports or forms.
Sometimes this is cool, becasue some users don't need the complexity of queries or forms to get calculated fields, sometimes, users just want a table, in which they can introduce data, and get the calculation automatically
Sadly, this feature never is included, and I think it is interesting to file an enhancement for Base.
I asked in the LibreOffice forum if Base had calculated fields, I got as reply it doesn't and an administrator there, David, suggested me to file the enhancement here.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Creating a table
2. You cannot build expressions to calculate fields

Current behavior:
Do not allow to create expressions to get calculated fields

Expected behavior:
Allow the creation of an expressions builder, to get calculated fields in tables

PLEASE, WATCH THIS VIDEO, IN WICH THIS FEATURE IS DOCUMENTED FOR ACCESS. The expected behaviour would be the same for Base.

Thank you for reporting this enhancement request! I can confirm that this is a valid enhancement request on:
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+Build ID: daa57a101a20e0b37db7090796ad002b8d192b9b
Date: Sun Dec 15 23:07:57 2013 +0100

As I've been able to confirm the enhancement request I am marking as:

New (confirmed)
Enhancement
Medium - there are several workarounds, I understand that queries and forms can be a bit complex, another option is to actually just make the table in Spreadsheet, if you use formulas there I believe that when you bring it into base you'll be good to go for the values.

This particular enhancement will attract more people in LO. Even a simple addition or subtraction, of fields present in the table (or query) of form, will be good.
People like to see, in forms, the outcome of their changes in numeric values.
Better is to have them dynamically change during the change of the corresponding fields.
A field calculated right after the change is also acceptable.

Also a box that will act like a cell in Calc and will be able to calculate, not the present fields but just the values of the controls of the form. I think this is more easier to do or somehow import from Calc.
