@Matt basically you suggest to involve DeviantArt to make a new icons theme contest? @Jay is this something that the Design team would like to take under consideration? It would be good if the design team could consider this, not so much as a criticism to their design ability as the layout works, but more as a chance to expand. Currently the Toolbar Icons looks very M$ Office 2005, its a point of issue with people when trying to get them to change over or try, the common issue is it looks a bit cheesy or old. The software is fine just looks a little dated, and this way would allow greater community expansion by engaging the community. Hi Matt, Seems like an interesting suggestion, though i wonder how many amateur designers would like to take on the large task of designing thousands of icons. Do you have any links to similar competitions run by other organizations. (In reply to Matt from comment #2) > Currently the Toolbar Icons looks very M$ Office 2005, its a point of issue > with people when trying to get them to change over or try, the common issue > is it looks a bit cheesy or old. LibreOffice does bundle a number of different icon themes users can choose from, including the most recent breeze icons. Icon are always a matter of taste, which is why we provide users with choices. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/5/51/Breeze_LO_Writer.png The idea came to one after grabbing some icons from their and realising how may designers produce them. One has not seen an icon comp recently, and while it is a large task, the chance to expand the community even if you just put the call out for new icons, or break the icons down into categories, or even the option at allow designers to create icons and easily allow LO users linux/windows/etc the chance to change them easily. Its about at least taking the chance to engage and talk to the design and art community, and, it offers massive opportunities for both parties potential media coverage. We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit] The idea is not bad and we do run some competition on visual artwork actually. But LibreOffice' icon theme is has many icons - and so far not too many people have been interested in this work. DeviantArt is just one address, there are many other. And of course everyone is welcome to submit proposals. There is nothing to open on our side, when we do not talk about a competition. |
