Description S. Christian Collins 2015-08-31 22:47:26 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a large document (many pages) in Writer.
2. Select "View" -> "Web Layout".
3. Scroll down a ways in the document.
4. Either A) Resize the horizontal size of the window or B) Click on one of the sidebar icons to expand the sidebar.

Result: The view is now showing somewhere else in the document, losing the spot that was previously in view.

Expected result: The text that was at the top of the view before the window was resized should remain at the top.

The web is fluid. The same happens to free-flowing text in any web browser.
You would get the same effect, if you changed page size formatting in normal view.

Closing as WONTFIX.

True, but I still think usability could be improved here so that when a user opens the sidebar to change text formatting, they don't completely lose sight of the text they're trying to format.

Yes usability wise it should maintain the position of the view. Even worse it doesnt maintain the position of the cursor (meaning if the cursor is in view, it wont retain it in view when resized), so ideally this should be rectified.

What do other ux-advise guys think?

Please add keyword 'needsUXEval' and CC 'libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org' if input from UX is needed.

Same in OOo 3.3, so inherited.
