Description Geoffrey 2014-04-11 12:42:08 UTC
This bug is especially valid in a table, where tab just goes to the next cell. You don't expect to change the first letter to capital when you just jump to the next cell in the table.

To reproduce:
1) Make a table
2) Type one word in the first cell with small capitals
3) Press tab to go to the next cell

Result: the first letter of the first word is capitalized, which shouldn't be since you're just jumping to the next table cell.

Please change this, this is not logical. This does not occur in Calc, but it does in Writer and has to some degree influence in Impress, where tab just works as content tab (in the title textbox in the dia designer).

Hi Geoffrey, there is a option that you can disable in:

Menu/Tools/Autocorrect - Options - Capitalize first letter of every sentence.

It's not a sentence, it's just one word in a table. I think an exception for tables in particular (or at least an option to do so) makes sense here.

Disabling commented option for [T] works fine for me, no difference if it is a sentence or one word.
Have you tried?
Comment 4 Geoffrey 2014-04-12 16:27:51 UTC
I would like to let the option disabled (because I want capitalization for sentences), but I dislike the tab functionality in the table, which is not logical as I explained above (bug report).

I have tried the option, and as I mention has no exception for TAB use within tables.

Maybe for your logical, but not all keep in the box.

I any case it can be a request for enhancement, but not a bug.

You can change the importance from normal to enhancement.

Or may record a macro to toggle the option quickly.

set status to NEW. basically the user asks to deal with that corner case.

I second this. Just spent ages un-autocorrecting a table. Programs that think they know better than I do are extremely annoying :)
