Description kgizdov 2013-08-20 20:49:34 UTC
Problem description:
There exists no way of formatting any axis in a chart such that it shows steps of thousands, millions, etc., anything different than units. For example, a data set has X-values of 10 000, 20 000, 30 000 and so on, the X-axis on the chart shows a scale of 10 000, 20 000, 30 000 and so on, instead of showing 10, 20, 30,... thousands at the end.

Current behavior:
Unsatisfactory

Expected behavior:
Mimic the same ability of Microsoft Office Excel in order to save space and avoid heavy clutter that ultimately ruins a useful chart

Operating System: Windows 7
Version: 4.1.0.4 release

That sounds like a great idea, setting it to new, all OS's & enhancement.

In fact, it should be possible to scale with any power of 10. For example, if the values are between 1E-12 and 9E-12, it should be possible to scale from 1 to 9 (and show the power at the end in a elegant way in words or scientific notation). This would be BETTER than Excel.

Still very interested by this enhancement

Why is this not a priority? This is pretty basic plotting, and breaks almost all of my spreadsheets coming over from Excel. To not be able to scale the values in a series for the Axis labels is a pretty big oversight. The alternative is to create a separated data column that is formatted as you want it for the Axis labels, instead of a check box and dropdown in the Scale tab of the Axis Format dialog. PLEASE, can't someone implement this!

I just noticed this was first posted in 2013!

Missing 'display units' feature Excel vs Calc 24.2

I agree with previous voices that this functionality is vital for Calc usability. As of my quick research, it's available in Excel since at least 2003 version of MSO.
