Description Luca Allulli 2013-06-21 12:52:09 UTC
I feel the border tool in the Table Bar not intuitive, and difficult to use. IMO, it should have a "toggle"-behavior like in MS Word, i.e.:

1. Each button icon shows a 2x2 table; some borders are "drawn", some are "blank".

2. When the user clicks on a button, Writer examines the borders in the current table selection (or cell) that match the pattern defined by the "drawn" borders of the button icon. We call them the "match".

3. If the style (width, color, etc.) of some borders of the match differs from the currently selected style, then Writer updates those borders. Their style will be updated to the currently selected style.

4. Otherwise, if the style of all the borders of the match is up to date, then all the borders of the match are removed.

Thank you,
Luca

This is the related AskLO thread:

http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/19401/redesign-tool-for-borders-in-table-bar/

The reference for enhancement is to the behaviour of the "Borders" button and related popup in the Table toolbar, as indicated in the bug title.

I totally agree with this. I have been trying for a while now to quickly add and then remove a row border on a multi-column table and it's not possible to do this with the toolbar button. Thus is a major issue for me and it may mean i will have to move to a paid app because i use this function frequently.

This button appears to have been unchanged, at least in appearance, throughout all LO versions to date.

As a result of comment #2, enhancement confirmed. Status set to NEW. Version changed to Inherited From OOo. Platform set to All/All. Bug 34398 and bug 38543 added to See Also list as these two enhancements deal with similar improvements to the Table Format dialog, which may impact how this facility behaves.
