Description Steve Edmonds 2011-06-14 01:21:14 UTC
When pasting to multiple cells (a range) of an item not copied from calc (i.e. a number copied from another application) only the top cell receives data. If the data was copied from a cell (a cell was copied as opposed to the contents of a cell) then the data pastes to all cells.

1. Enter say the digit 9 into a cell. Click into the cell, copy. Select 5 cells and paste. 9 pastes into all 5 cells.

2. Now in your email, select a word or number and copy. Select 5 cells and paste. The word only pastes into the top 1 of the 5 cells.

It would be nice if the behavior in 2 was the same as in 1. This would be an enhancement over the current situation in LO and Excel.

Hi :)
Confirmed in Ubuntu 10.04 with LibreOffice 3.3.2 (from the PPAs). It also happens the same in Excel but it's inconsistent internally.

The same thing happens when trying to copy from other apps, such as Writer. The value is only posted to the top cell of the selection.
Regards from
Tom :)

Reproduced in 3.5.0 on Fedora 64 bit
I agree that it is inconsistency. In Writer we can select some cell in table and paste text there, it appears in all selected cells. In Calc only in first cell.

Same behavior in Writer, if you copy the cell pasting into multiple selected cells duplicates. Pasting content from external tools such as an editor gives an error in Writer but alike Calc pastes into the first cell only.
